I think you're right. Almost everyone prepared to spend the money to run one probably has one.

I'd like a C6 but I would be annoyed with the 2.7, knowing there is a 3.0 that would give me more grunt and no increase in tax. But no-one wants to sell their 3.0, so when they do come up they have "the missus made me promise to try and sell it" prices.

Hopefully enough nice examples will remain that they can be run as classics eventually. Until then, they'll be at risk of "what's the point in spending so much on that?" budget decisions. Glad I have an understanding missus who understands the difference between cost and value, and also likes nice old cars.

I have two, and used to have three, cars in what is now the £790 a year bracket and I used to think "meh" but I have to admit it is high enough now that it's really pissing me off. Even on something reasonably nice like an XKR or a Boxster or whatever it's 10% of the value of the car every year and it goes up every year.

I'm sending my XKR off to live on a farm on Saturday morning and I'm looking to replace it with probably an F Type and I'll be looking at post 2016 cars because over three years the RFL saving alone will get me a fair way between the purchase price difference between one with low tax vs an early one and at least this way I get some benefit (newer car) from what is likely to be £2k over the three years by the time it spirals upwards.

As they ratchet it up and up and up to become an ever larger % of the cars value I think it's going to really screw stuff like R230 SL500s and XKs and 7/6 series that will forever be worthless. On real Thread turds like a post 06 750i or an S500 that's only worth a couple of grand anyway it's going to put them all in the knackers yard years early but at least we'll have plenty of 3.0 diesel slugs belching out st to enjoy eh.

Yet another kick in the bks for the man in the middle who pays for every fking thing.

I think with the 6/7 series BMW it might not be that bad because there are only very few V8 around anyway and the combination of being a bit rarer and ULEZ compliant might make them attractive enough for some to keep? The BMW i6 aren't highest tax either so they'll be fine too but the '06-'10 V6s from everyone else will have a hard time. Can't wait for even cheaper XKs though!

I have never known such opulence in a car though. Had all the paperwork with it and it cost around £121k new in late 2013, an amazing car

eBay auction ended at midnight which was a bit weird, put a spite bid in before I went to sleep and assumed that would be that.



Was quite close to messaging him this morning and offering him £100 for messing him around but what's the worst that can happen? They do hold their value ridiculously well even as heaps. It's low miles (for a LC), low owners, decent MOT history, 19 Services including 17 Toyota stamps and has the desirable facelift upgrades while being in the pre March 06 tax bracket.

Worst case I can get the LC bug out of my system without losing my shirt.

I've got a Dacia Duster that I only have tenuous reasons to change so going to run both over the summer and see which one survives, they're worth about the same despite the 17 year age difference.

Dealer was a little bit perturbed that I wouldn't leave a deposit. Their terms do say if it's not going to be collected within 48hrs which I just about am then one is not required.

I've never handed money over before standing in front of a car. These guys do seem legit, car checks out on HPI, although they do have a stocking loan against it. Don't know enough about how dealers work but that seems odd to me if it's a trade in but I guess it's probably fairly normal.

Going to need to drag my welder out by the sounds of it.

Stocking loans are pretty standard in the motor trade.
Security is a legal charge over whatever cars the dealership owns at the point in time when the lender wants to exercise their rights
If the garage premises are either rented or mortgaged, the car stock in trade is the only serious sized asset many forecourts have to pledge.

The clear glass is a funny thing, I did about 330 miles yesterday and saw a lot of cars and apart from some nice old things bimbling around the one that really stood out was a first gen (don't know numbers) Cayenne Turbo, immaculate in silver with clear glass all round; it looked so light and it took me a moment to realise it was the clear glass.

This was on the motorway and I looked about and all the other cars had blacked out rear glass irrespective of type.

Why has this become the norm? is it part of the quadruple black brain-dead car ordering culture where the purchaser believes it signifies 'cool'? because it absolutely doesn't.
