To offer an alternate view. I think that era of Audi was decent. Always dynamically short of what BMW could do, but a decent 7/10s type option and the V8 remains a strong differentiation. The RS4 of the time was at the same 420 bhp mark as the E9X and Lexus ISF but the S4 performance could certainly be described as adequate and the soundtrack is great.
One burbled by me in a supermarket car park the other week and it sounded naughty, but nice. The lumpy tax is always going to be an issue but it's the same for other cars, too. My bigger reservation would be the 3k chain job potentially lurking.
As someone who craves cost effective V8 burbles it's quite difficult to navigate. The Venn diagram isn't generous in its solutions.
An S4/5 is almost one end of the scale, the other end can run well into 6 figures for filth like Z8s and SLSs. Trading depreciation/appreciation against capital outlay and running costs quickly becomes an issue of analysis paralysis.
My spreadsheet starts at the Audis, then moves up via a Mustang at 30k, an RC F at 40k, an LC500 at 60k and so on.
I think the Audi is a temptingly cheap answer to scratch the noisy itch.

Just get this, it will have the best V8 noise you'll ever want, it will keep pulling until you have to lift and the engines and gearboxes are known to be very robust.
Also it's cool as the proverbial Fox's glacier mint without shouting about it.

Just to clarify, it's the S models I can't see the point in, the RS aren't for me but I can absolutely see why you would.
Yes, I'm referring to S4/5An RS4 Avant would obviously float boat.

LS600h for a bit over thread. Looks pretty decent for the mileage (from what you can tell from the bad pitcures). A number of them around for not much money at the moment it looks like. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202605222...

What a wonderful thing...

Well this is a curious thing
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/318381133859
A manual 6.0 late XJ12 covered in Jaguarsport bits. I thought JaguarSport were gone by 1995/6 but maybe they weren't and this was a car someone dropped a fortune to have modified? I know the original idea of JaguarSport was like a works service affair as well as developing stuff like the XJR-S.
Also seems suspiciously cheap.
That looks lovely! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/318381133859

But that price does make me wonder what the catch is.

Or would that be a gdpr no-no?
If they would anonymise the records, it would potentially show if its was looked after and had all recommended works completed straight away, or a lemon run on the bare minimum.

I like that. Well worth a punt at half thread (at least, before MOT checks and getting down on the gravel to look under it...)dscam said:

That's superb even with the attempt to make it look like a van. Assume its a red top engine which is over 300bhp - great barge.dscam said:
Now that...is nice! Great find.(p.s. i'm holding out for Sturgeon's 125k RV)
