I would guess that it's to differentiate it from miles since rebuild / engine replacement / in current ownership etc. A bit of a hangover from a time when engines or even the whole car were significantly overhauled several times through the vehicle's life?Not sure why people say "from new" when talking about mileage. Like that CLS. One owner since 2013, low mileage for the year (2008) and a light interior. Echoing GOL's comment from yesterday, I just can't see the point of throwing £20k at a modern barge. My thinking exactly. Every time I have spent up to £10k on a car the end result has been the same as a £5k car in terms of maintenance, but the depreciation has been doubled.
When looking, as I was, at 2010-2014 Range Rovers, I noticed that the used car prices quadruple over those 4 years.
As it's a Range Rover it is not a case of "if it goes wrong", it's more a case of "when it goes wrong".
So I am not sure I would have saved any maintenance bills by buying slightly newer.
Buying one at the lower end of the price scale was, for me, the best thing I did.
All that depreciation going somewhere else.
