Early Friday solution to chassis/ rust issues for bargiests

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DbGSXKQs4OP
I’ve seen it all now!

For anyone who cannot view IG content, it’s a Porsche Cayman that’s had unreported front end damage and the chassis been ‘expertly’ repaired using timber. Sprayed black so as not to ruin the aesthetic of course. Discovered while on the ramp after recent purchase…

Absolutely insane.

Happy Friday budget creep, zut alors.

Wafty XM looks tasty, nice early version 10k

Same engine (?), Xantia Activa manual, perfect except for towbar - 20k
Nice. I love XMs, having had a few in the past, but they need to be autos to compliment the waftage

Nice colours on this E63 https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202607184...

That's like a reverse numberwang or something compared to the X5 thing; the interior does not elicit a very positive reaction from me.

The outside though, is very, very lovely.
I like it.

Despite the punchy price this iteration is preferable in my eyes to the later W212 as even though it’s the newer car the interior lost some of the more traditional Mercedes feel. In the right colours like this and with the proper N/A motor that’s a compelling proposition and I’m sure the seller knows it.

Mild off roading, very impressive in low range going downhill!
STOP TEMPTING ME TO BUY AN L322 I PROBABLY CAN'T ACTUALLY AFFORD TO BUY AN L322
I finally got one and even I’m tempted by looking at these pictures!

It’s a great looking vehicle.

I’m a sucker for old SAAB and in the context of some other ropey rubbish advertised at around £5k these days I think this looks great and would give many more years of good service.

I'm having naughty thoughts about putting in a £1500 offer on that C6 posted above. It's not far from me and I've wanted one forever!
Go for it, a C6 is on my list but the diesel puts me off and they all seem to be diesel.
Seems a cheap way into C6 ownership. Lots of work has been done and it is priced low enough to warrant a punt. The cambelt stands out as a pricey job, but the Lounge pack and cream interior are a bonus. They are all diesels anyway, so unless you must have a petrol, at least take a look and report back with the obligatory forecourt shot ?
I know from personal experience that at least in Jaguar's that cam belt can be ignored for a long time and you can get lucky. Just sayin'
Carbon copy colour scheme of mine, fantastic cars, and at that money just shed it along and sell it to me when the cambelt snaps!

I wish I had the requisite to run the 6.2.

A8 update. My tame 'the VAG man' mistook the car for a low miler and was astonished at its 228k tally. It will go to him over next few weeks for front suspension/steering bushes and swirl flap repair. Really liking the big scoundrel, a limo compared to my other cars.

A bit from column A and a bit from column B biggrin

The 5.5 biturbo is a bit chunky but I was fortunate to get a 3yr warranty on it that's paid out a few times so far (nothing horrendous) and whilst it's averaging 21 overall, a 260 mile round trip taken at a leisurely pace was 29.8 mpg door to door which is very acceptable.

ETA.
I’ve just re read this and it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
Mine being a later car I was able to (just) get the better AA warranty whereas the 6.2 would be too old and I’m too risk averse to run something like that without one.
The fuel economy of the 6.2 is I think around mid teens average and a bit better on a run and as it’s my daily driver that’s too much to stomach.

'Pollute' all you like! Everyone loves a bit of positivity on these old things, it lures us into a false sense of security...

beer we have been using it on 'outside town' trips only and its my intention to use it weekends and maybe work twice a week with the 120 mile each way trips to my dad on top of that. Seems to be ticking over at 40mpg average although shows high 40s on longer journeys. If I use it sparingly my hope is it won't stop feeling special!!

That is an absolute bargain. Two last pictures from PC magazine are a cool bit of it's history. The hardtop is worth the asking price nearly and mot until next year. Cheap fun for someone.
Practical Classics writer so you'd think it would be a decent car, the one magazine I still get, and at that price can you go wrong?
I already have one too many otherwise id be interested at that price.
It's probably the only magazine I've bought in the last 5 years although I haven't got it for a while. It's pretty close to my new house, I'll go and view if it's still up when I move in.

(but it definitely needs spacers.)

Apropos of nothing of a quiet Friday, saw this 840i gran coupe with clear glass and thought even with the silly wheels, it doesn't half look good. The cat is called Smudge, not mine, but couldn't miss her out.

Agreed on all counts!

The 8 GC is a hugely overlooked car I think and I imagine they may be a bit of a bargain now/in future.

Final one - this E500 has had a price drop from £10k and I think still too expensive at £7.5k but looks decent:

I'd take the Scorpio Estate for half the money every time. 6 cylinders and RWD. smile
