If anyone has any links to nice CL500s with a 55 reg and less than 100k on the clock I'd consider one of those. They're such great cars, fantastic MPG for a 5.0 v8 and probably the best car I've had out of maybe a hundred I've owned over the years.

BX sounds like a great idea until I see the consideration of some sort of resilience being required.
I’d look Clio 182 or 200, no supercharger whine like a Mini but defo likely to hit the enthusiast owner angle.
Or, they are possibly even below the Barry boys now, Civic Type R.
Or, a Merc 190, as outside chance of not letting you down thanks to general simplicity.

with the BX (or whatever I end up getting) my view is having two cars (for me + my wife is inheriting my S212 that I bought a couple months ago) that they won't all be broken at the same time. So if I get something a bit risky to go with my other risky choices I should be okay still. The Merc 190 is nice but it looks like it cost the dealer £995 and he's put £4k on it. If I got that car I'd want something left over in the budget for wheel refurb, a stereo and some decent tyres.
The Giulietta I don't think I could ever gel with. Looks far too new for my liking. Older Alfa's like the 164 would be more my sort of thing.
40mpg on cruise on a motorway journey, worse around town. Saabs before 2003 were better built, before about 1997 even better built. If they interest you go for the SE models or the Aeros. The spec varies, from cloth seats and manual everything to leather, electric, ventilated, heated seats for example. Also, speaking for myself, I much prefer the autos to the manuals. And the only one I have owned newer than 2002 was badly made apart from the very comfortable newer model seats.

This has jumped up to £2490 - error in the first place? Or chancing a higher price with the good weather?Re: Saabs, my 9-5 is 2006 and the build quality is atrocious. The only car I've had that felt cheaper was a classic Mini but you could forgive that for all its charm. It's full of nasty plastics, buttons with poor connections, trim that's broken, and I've had silly faults that - from Googling - seem to be common, like the window regulators failing.

It's sad to hear that, although it confirms my limited experience of late Saabs, because the older cars were absolutely fantastically high quality and very durable. To be expected in any company fighting for it's life I suppose, the temptation to "project drive" the product is too strong.

Tidy looking A8 in a nice colour combo - 149k on the lcok, £3495 - no MOT though, its last was aug last year, but looked pretty clean.
its a 3.2fsi , not the usual 4.2 diesel

That steering wheel reminds me of looking through brochures as a kid at all all the wonderful options. Of course almost no-one specced it IRL because you're one Boneless Banquet away from having a crash.its a 3.2fsi , not the usual 4.2 diesel
