Only 83k and an invoice from Mercedes for £5000 last year for a new DPF and oil cooler to be fitted.

Some fag packet maths here
S320d uses 8.4 l/100km
S500 uses 11.9 l/100km

At current fuel prices £4.55 per 100KM difference in running costs, so that one dirty diesel related repair bill wiped out the savings made in about 110,000KM of driving or 68k miles.

So basically someone said no to 50% more power and infinitely more refinement and over the life of the vehicle to date it's saved next to no money and now you can't drive it into towns all over the continent. Compare to the S350 and it's even more stark.

That whole diesel thing really was madness.

ETA - I saw some of the repair was an oil cooler so while it's failure was not directly related to the fuel being used it seems likely the cooler decided to die because it couldn't stand the noise and stench any longer hehe

The rear washer jet also isn't working so I need to investigate that some more. Everything else seems to work.
And this is also now working - a connection had come apart above the driver's side rear wheel arch so it was spraying onto some sound insulation.

Yes didn't mean to piss on your new car, it's great to see such capable tin coming back into thread budget. Looks like a 2010 on facelifted car too?
Don’t worry, if I could have found a good S500 or even an S350 petrol I’d have probably went with that.

2012 LWB model and has pan roof. Seen some 7 series but trying to buy a car this time round has been a mission.

No replies from sellers, cars just not as described. Wasted a few days after being told the car was mint to discover EML’s, lacquer peel and a FSH that was totally fabricated on one.

We all love a happy ending where one's spray is directed appropriately.

Says 'CVT' in the title. I guess with a transverse front wheel drive setup as well? Not very barge. Nice interior though.
"Not very barge"?

Exhibit A, m'lud. The defence rests.

Claimed only 53k miles only 3 owners (I guess that could be 3 previous, but still)

A bit wheezy as a 3litre petrol, but it looks Ok.

4bags.
The A8 has always been the least convincing barge for me, every generation since the D2 seems to get closer to being nothing more than a giant A4. This one even has an engine more appropriate for an A4. That'll be absolutely toss with a teeny little six whirring away through a CVT connected to the front wheels.

Yeah, I just liked it as it’s so sensible looking and doesn’t have rubber band profile tyres.

I'd avoid anything with that CVT box, I had one in an A4 back in the day and it was rubbish. And that one didn't break rather dissapointingly.

Working through the list on the chairmans 750i

Done the sunroof seal as it was leaking and creating wind noise (the former obviously the more serious issue of the two)

Wheel refurb. This car came with matching Dunlops all round but front two were a bit worn. Luckily whoever fitted them bought 5 as there was a brand new one in the boot. So I bought one more and now I have a full set of decent Dunlops and won't have to worry about tyres for a while. The 5th one which is in the boot is okay as a spare if I need it.

Also bought a tool kit as mine was completely empty and you might need it for that day when you need to apply a field dressing at the side of the A14.

Still to come:

- Chinese screen replacement is on the way so I can have Spotify and up to date navigation. Will replace the existing screen so is going to look original.
- Headlining needs doing. I think I will pin it up at the rear as a stop-gap.
- Needs a service as I'm not sure when it was last done, going to do the transmission fluid and change 3rd gear solenoid while I'm at it.
- Paint the door mirrors as they have that special BMW plastic which goes 50 shades of grey when old.

That's about it.

Cleaned up my December 2022 thread purchase today while off work and not hot!

Be sad to see it go when it’s R36 replacement arrives!

I’m struggling to find something. Ideally something local would be ideal. It means I can look at a few. Any suggestions?
