A nice car but why does the grill look odd? Or am I imagining it.
Hmm, has Gerald breathed on it?

There are so many reasons to not buy it

But isn't that the point of this thread - to look for diamonds in the rough

Not much detail in the ad, but a 530i on the little wheels is such a great Euro look.

I was disappointed to note the doughnut spare. Is that an example of the German ensttification of a British marque, or had they already eschewed full-size spare wheels before being bought up by the removed reference to the origins of VW to avoid getting banned again ?

Lexus managed to find room for a 19" spare wheel in the contemporary fourth gen LS, after all.

Lovely, bet the enlarged straight six is smooth, but the 18y 60k service gap hints at neglect - or could just be an owner who didn’t care for such trivial records. Do you feel lucky punk, do ya ?

IL6 has rack and pinion. Recirculating ball in V8s. A PHer responded at that age with ageing suspension parts would it make much of a discernible difference?

Do a complete refresh of the bushings and balljoints (I didn't read the full ad so no idea if this is what the "multiple suspension issues addressed" covered), and it will be good as new.

An Alpina is an itch I'd like to scratch one day; I find BMWs unexciting in general but there's something decidedly special about an Alpina (or an old school M-car).

Not just the sills that need poking, it's rusting everywhere. Probably not a bad buy if you're handy with a welder and/or not too worried about sanding filling and blending lots of bits.

I was meaning the hand-built engine in particular, but I do get your point about aged suspension needing a refresh.

Double thread but claiming Friday time warp, what a bizarre advert from the trade which tells you absolutely nothing about the vehicle. Low miles but overall spidey senses tingling.

It's a fresh import, speedo is still km/h and presumably no history. Registered as 525i with 2.5l engine so for F11 that's a 523i not a 530i?

It s possibly an N53 530 but that handbrake button and rear seats tell a story that I wouldn t want to hear.

Also I think the spec listed is off . I can t see the sensor in front wing silver thing for advanced parking (not sure though), it s standard import alcantra not merino champagne and the spec overall - especially for an import - is sparse.

Edit: how worn is driver’s mat!

Did it come from the factory like that? If so, it's amazing.
