£5.5k, ouch.

My Dad had an estate with this engine size, its pretty slow, which means you have to rev it hard to get it moving, which makes it loud and thirsty.

Indeed as ouch, ouch. Oddly the vendor has avoided taking a picture of the drivers bolster.

GoL congrats with your AM bowthumbup

So far going much better than expected, which is to say it's only likely to cost £2k right of the bat hehe

C6 with a ticket and "no issues" for under a grand. That's cheap, even if it is a diesel.

And in Bradford. What could possibly... etc

For a bag, even being a Linage, that's a bargain.

Shed it along until its next test then sell it for spares. Supremely relaxing things to waft about in.

At that money there is a strong temptation just to say you’ve owned a Rolls.

The first bill would likely necessitate a bailout but you’d always get a couple of grand for one of these, surely.

Indeed. If it starts, runs and stops that’s an interesting car to run between tests for next to no money.

I imagine the £735 road tax (is it?) may be putting off buyers.
To be fair, it's about £60 a month, and if you have bought a cheap car it's just a "so what".

I bet it would be addictive and would tempt you to spend money on keeping it going. If the air con works, then surely that's all you need.

I think you're right. Almost everyone prepared to spend the money to run one probably has one.

I'd like a C6 but I would be annoyed with the 2.7, knowing there is a 3.0 that would give me more grunt and no increase in tax. But no-one wants to sell their 3.0, so when they do come up they have "the missus made me promise to try and sell it" prices.

Hopefully enough nice examples will remain that they can be run as classics eventually. Until then, they'll be at risk of "what's the point in spending so much on that?" budget decisions. Glad I have an understanding missus who understands the difference between cost and value, and also likes nice old cars.

I find it endlessly annoying that I can never buy a car for as cheap as the person I'm bidding against.

I might have to get into the spite bidding game hehe
I've ended up with a good few cars from that game, I think "ha ha that's way too cheap, no way it goes for that, might as well have a bid!"

I've never been really badly burned, and a few times I've scored a notable bargain, but I think this is (against some pretty good competition) the riskiest so far.

It's ultimately just a tarted up XJS though, how ruinous can it possibly be? I'm definitely not bricking it, no way, absolutely not. It's cost me £66 to insure for the next 200 odd days left on my multicar policy though, which seems reasonable. I should probably move my XKR on now.

Last night I joined this game and now seem to own a 100 Series Landcruiser with dodgy AHC.

eBay auction ended at midnight which was a bit weird, put a spite bid in before I went to sleep and assumed that would be that.

Was quite close to messaging him this morning and offering him £100 for messing him around but what's the worst that can happen? They do hold their value ridiculously well even as heaps. It's low miles (for a LC), low owners, decent MOT history, 19 Services including 17 Toyota stamps and has the desirable facelift upgrades while being in the pre March 06 tax bracket.

Worst case I can get the LC bug out of my system without losing my shirt.
