Thanks Stevie. A departure from my normal slightly eccentric choices for sure! Well it was sitting good as gold this morning, no sinking on the air suspension, started sweet, no rattles and I dropped my Mrs off to see what it does on our 20 mile mixed road commute rather than 100 plus miles at 60mph...43mpg is the answer so a frugal car for one of its size. Engine is a lovely sounding lump 'for a diesel' too!! Is the Alfa coming out for summer shows?

Congratulations, it looks great. I wholly respect and understand your retirement and trundling comments, and I ll admit to knowing nothing about Audi diesel engines, but I suggest giving it an occasional workout, even if it s only booting it hard as you join the A90 (?) before reaching the first average speed camera. My wife is a pootler in her S211 E320CDI and I have to take it out and clear the pipes now and again; we have had it almost since new, and that was the advice of the mobile MB mechanic when it went into limp mode while under warranty. It s now reached 185k miles, and while I ve been dismayed at the amount of sooty muck in its innards when I have worked on it, it continues run happily.

fair point...I'm sure my foot will sink to the carpet occasionally...for the muted V6 noise if nothing else.

Just wanted to add my congratulations on a car well bought.
But echo the comment re a foot to the floor clear out - find a long hill too if you can; I had my FiL’s old Seat Toledo Sport 150 all the red letters which he drove in a very sedate way and it was a lot happier post WOT / long hill ascents.
Still miss that car.

I looked at Phaetons before the Audi but much preferred the Audi interior. Some of the Phaetons and A8s have a bit of an 'old man' interior. Mine is the Sport (poverty?) model and has, I think, nicer seats.

Thought I'd take a look at the details of that Volvo as I'm a sucker for quick estates, and although it was MOT'd in March it hasn't been taxed for over 2 years despite doing 6k miles in that time. I guess the owner got fed up paying it. £760/yr.

Interesting, the tax due date was 3 days after the last V5 release.

I wonder if the purchaser thought the seller was going to sort the tax for them (paid them for it) but it wasn’t done, doesn’t explain the 2nd year though. You don’t want to buy it and be retrospectively charged for 2 years road tax (£1,500 ).

If the former were the case, then maybe the lack of a reminder wouldn t have rung bells but I think more likely a case of the Jimmy Carrs (tax dodger) or for our usual audience the tickling stick holder.

It's 4 grand for a 25+ year old not very high spec V70. But 53k miles and looks to be well cared for.

That being said, the front number plate has been advised for 17 years. I think that's some sort of record.

macron - thanks for posting the 21 Turbo Quadra. Almost unicorn cars these and anything remotely drivable and in one piece deserves saving. My 21T is on the list of cars I very much regret selling even though you could barely give them away at the time…

Ref the Volvo above, I actually admire the sheer stubbornness of letting that advisory remain for 17 years! It does rather speak of an owner that may only spend on the car when it’s actually broken which may not bode well depending how you look at these things.

£4k seems a lot of money considering the povo spec too.

Had one exactly like that that I bought about 12 years ago for £1200.

Did have a few more miles on but it's probably the one car this side of a 100 Series Landcruiser where mileage isn't important.
