Quick PCP vs lease question: I had heard (which may be wrong) that if you apply for a mortgage the whole finance amount of the PCP is taken into account but for a lease they just take into consideration the monthly?
Probably one for the mortgages thread. Sarnie will know.
I did think it depends on the lender.

Back on topic-ish, for a cheap EV run around, Car giant has some cheap pcp options, was looking at a Leaf around £189/£230pm depending on deposit. Seems ok to me if treating like a lease. Risk on servicing, warranty etc but they seem to be quite robust.

I came past the Bristol docks yesterday and there are thousands of MG’s sat there, various models and colours. Never seen that many there before.
There is a risk of a Chinese car tariff , they are getting them into the country as soon as they can

There is also a new Mg HS and MG ZS SUVs out next month, so again they have the last delivery of the current version to sell before the new versions arrive.

On the topic of MG

MG have now registered all the remaining previous shape MG 3 cars (that’s the normal petrol one, not the new hybrid model).

Local dealer had 4 of them lined up all with £11995 in the window

Practically a brand new car for £12k, no wonder Dacia sales figures in the UK have gone down

Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t buy one, but could make a fantastic PCP deal for someone who can live with that 1.5 non turbo engine.

I’m looking to get an EV into the family to try one and I just can’t bring myself to seriously consider MG.

I suppose they might be useful in helping to hold other brands’ pricing down.

God knows who buys those things, I’ve had a couple as courtesy cars when my mg4 has had to go in again and again. Absolutely dreadful cars.

What’s your MG4 like, or is there another thread where you’ve written about it?

I have had a Leaf on a very cheap lease since February 2020. Been faultless, and is a great little London car. Also, a surprisingly likeable thing.

I was surprised looking at them this week, that they’re not exactly “little” - 4.5 metres long. Quite narrow though, which is suppose is handy in London.

It's why I like it. Narrow, but has a decent sized boot (for pushchairs etc - we have young kids) unlike, say, a Honda E. Leaf is Golf sized.

Owned since December 22 and It’s the SR SE model… positives drives really well, handles better than it has any right to and plenty quick enough. Range okay for my daily commuting and town work etc. Overall feels reasonable well screwed together as far as fit and finish goes.

Negatives I’ve never had any other new car that has required multiple visits to the dealer.
Not long after having it a recall for people getting locked in the car. Then I had an issue with an airbag fault warning constantly pinging up to the point of distraction. Took several attempts over the course of a year and a threat to hand the car back for them to actually take the issue seriously and find the fault was a faulty airbag. Fine since that was replaced.

Drivers back rest adjustment has now failed at 20k… bearing in mind it never really gets adjusted. New seat base has just arrived at the dealer.
To add to that a few weeks ago I got locked in the car the very fault that the first software update in early 2023 was supposed to solve.

Lots of complaints from owners about the lane keeping assistance, yes it can be turned off but it’s buried in a menu. It’s tried to steer me into the side wall of the severn bridge before now.

Audio is tinny and no rear speakers on the SE if that bothers you.

I’d say it’s a decent car but plagued with silly software faults.
If you want to pay to beta test a car MG is certainly the one to get.

Thanks. It's for my daughter and she wouldn't live with that and I really don't need the hassle. MG is sold by the local Honda dealer and they're useless thieving wkers and I have vowed never to darken their door again.

Mind you, I liked the small EV Volvo's (30 and 40) but there are horror stories about those.

Funnily enough wife's Karoq was in for yet another warrany visit recently and they did an update to prevent the keyless fob from being locked in the car. Think it's been in 6 times in the last year. Had a Tiguan before for 8yrs with barely a peep out of it.

What’s the Volvo horror stories? The wife’s got a XC40 T5 at the moment but fancies swapping it for an electric version. Her current Volvo has been faultless in the 4 years she’s had it. Only complaint is it’s got squeaky brakes.

No buttons interior and software bugs

The "product specialist" showing XC40 to us said it doesn't matter about the buttons, it's all voice control. He then couldn't get it to respond! He also they're still waiting (always a bad sign) for wireless CarPlay. And (not the car's fault) he insisted it was FWD - it's not, it's RWD, they changed a while ago.

To be honest, the "clean-ness" of the interior was a bit of a relief vs the bonkers Hyundai Kona Ultimate interior that we looked at.

Volvo had to recall EX30 (and it's still not orderable) due to loads of software issues and buyers were rejecting cars. They've long had software issues on ICE cars, never mind EVs. Seen a few posts on US forums on EV XC40, where they put miles on cars vs the typical UK users doing 5K/yr, and there are tales of cars breaking down over and over. There's a road test reports of one having various glitches including failing to engage reverse and the driver had to push it out of its parking space.

I gather its miles per kWh isn't great in motorway use and ours would be doing quite a lot of that (45 miles of a 65 miles per day round trip commute).

Ok, thanks. It seems to be same with all these newly released electric cars, a chap I work with has a BMW IX, he’s on his second as he rejected the first due to software problems. His second isn’t much better!

I could probably live with the odd glitch but our daughter lives on her own and has a very hectic life. She's pretty capable, but even a few mins delay getting out in the morning would completely mess up her commute - 40 mins could easility become over an hour and it's not a job where she can rock up when it suits her.

OTOH she's spending £250+/mth on petrol and that could be £50 in an EV.
