This post just reads like a thinly-veiled fear of both.
That says more about you than it does me.

Edit - to be fair I am somewhat fearful of any vehicle (modern ICE, EV, or when I am a passenger) that I am not fully in control of

What makes a good EV interesting to drive?

For me all cars with a gearstick and 3 pedals and a petrol engine are in the "in theory I could be interested" box, and then I consider which ones I am more interested in and which ones less.

All autos and EVs are in the "not interested box".

One day I'd love a 90s 8 series BMW... but it'll probably never happen because so few of them are manual.

As others have said - if you are filling up one a month, you are only plugging in at home a couple of times a month.

As usual. People with no clue about EV's, who haven't lived with them, making up a narrative to support their hate. The looking a bit foolish. The next step will be to call people EVangelists and claim some superiority - you could go for the skill it takes to change gear, or your need to dive 500 miles in 9 hours without ever stopping.
I happen to be heterosexual. I didn't need to sleep with a man to make sure. I looked at girls (I was a boy back then!) and knew that was what I wanted. I looked at boys and my groin did not stir.

It's similar with ICE vs EV.

Some people know what they like and want. Some people are able to look at something, consider it's features, use their experience and wants to assess the thing they are looking at, and know for sure they don't want it.
What chance you could manage that with this thread?
Just wondered whilst I appreciate the title of this thread encourages engagement do you tell everyone you meet that you are heterosexual? If this thread was “Gays no one wants them” would you actively seek it out and tell everyone a hundred different ways why you are heterosexual?

It’s my belief you don’t fancy an EV which is fair enough but worry that one day the supply of ICE will run out. You might then need to catch the electric bus but that will be a good few years off. Anyway I’m off to the knitting thread to tell them they are all wrong.

Why not? No-one needs your permission to ask a question.

When someone if consistently banging on about the purity of their ICE car then it’s good to know what they’re talking about. You know, what with this being a car forum.

And no. I don’t drive an EV.

Thanks. I honestly think there's something lovely about 4 wheels, 3 pedals and a stick. I'd have no problem if, in a few minutes, I had to jump in my first car - 1980 1.1L Fiesta.
I get this entirely as there is a joy to an older basic driving car or even for that matter a basic spec modern. That’s why I have my 1967 classic car. I have the 2022 Defender, Fiat 500 and Smart #1 EV….they all have their merits. If you can’t see a use case for an EV in your life that’s cool but to slate others choices is either some sort of mental or jealousy.

The two main reasons for sticking with manual gearboxes - nostalgia and what people are used to - not because they are a better driving experience.

It's not nostalgia - it's my current life experience, and has been all my driving life.

I admit that it's what I'm used to. I tend to think that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is a good way of living your life. I enjoy the entire process of controlling a car with three pedals and a stick. I find cruise control to be an unnecessary bit of tech which reduces driving pleasure, let alone having an automatic or no gears. [I will occasionally use cruise control, but so little that I tend to forget than one of my cars has it... I only really find it handy on the rare occasions I'm on a motorway with speed restrictions

There is nothing wrong with any of this - what is weird is the sheer vitriol you've posted about anyone who thinks otherwise.

So what is the car you drive?

He rarely talks about his own cars, which is a bit odd for a car forum. But he talks a LOT [of bks] about EVs.

It always used to be 3 pedals and a stick or nothing for me as well. Although as I've got older, I can appreciate only 2 pedals now though(a 7 speed DCT in the M4, and an 8 speed auto in the X5), and sometimes it's nice to have the easy option, but I wouldn't want that all of the time though, and that goes some way to explain why I'm not rushing out to buy electric either really.

Both my weekend cars are 3 pedal manuals though. driving

Plus I'm currently actually enjoying driving my eldest daughters manual Audi A1 too, and I prefer that to sitting alongside her to be honest! I hate not being in control for example.

Yeah, something like that. He mentions it’s £4K cost more often than the car itself! Oh, and I think he mentioned that it’s a manual gearbox (a million times).

I had one as I was drawn to its looks and think it’s genuinely an underrated future classic. Wife insisted I get the auto….i know the shame. It was only £6k and sold for the same after 2 yrs. it had to go I had too many cars to care for properly and I don’t like seeing them unused.

It’s not the first time he’s brought his sexual preferences into the discussion either. Last time he even pointed out that he wouldn’t “date” Boy George. Fred is a proper “man” for sure and isn’t going to be seen driving around in “gay” cars.
