True, but the majority on here nowadays aren't interested in cars with engines in them anymore though. So I guess that it is just a natural progression to chat about electric cars now really.

Plus this thread is still in General Gassing at the end of the day as well, and I do like chatting about cars in general, as my post count shows that to be fair.
No, a lot of people on here run multiple cars.

Running an EV as one of those can and does make a lot of sense for many.

I dont think there is anyone on here saying "i only run an EV and its better than every ICE car ever, therefore everyon should sell their ICE cars and do what i've done"?
bingo! but this is how it's interpreted by a lot on here and elsewhere.
Yep. The usual suspects try to make it into a them vs us conflict. They always forget that nearly all EV owners on PH also still like and often own ICE cars too. How do they think we even got here in the first place?
Indeed. I've spent 27 years owning and enjoying 20+ different ICE cars, one of which I still own and love. My favourite / dream cars are all ICE. But now that I've had an EV to commute in for the last year I'm no longer a car enthusiast and have no interest in engines. laugh

No, I m not saying anything about their financial status or even their preference toward EV or ICE. It s more about their cognitive abilities. For example, I m going to guess that you didn t go to Uni. I could be completey wrong of course, but if I had to guess based on your posting history .

Then you ve got posters like GT9 who are clearly educated to a very high technical level.

Contrast that with say the MB .

I know we all enjoy a laugh, and we're all passionate about which side we're on(and a few of you that are in the middle of course).

But I am genuinely impressed with how much passion comes from the electric side of things though, and I've said that before. Although I love to know where that comes from really(is it just your age or era that you're from for example), because I'm just not wired up to think like that in comparison, and my heart is with ICE as everyone knows.

I profusely apologise for saying this again Lee.

There doesn't need to be "sides". It's possible to like both.

But if there are people who do take a side it has to be the EV haters.

Why? Because people who like EVs also like ICE cars here, don't they? It's not like they started with EVs, is it?

I don't think it's so much a passion for EVs, more a hatred of "fake news".

You say a “few” who are in the middle. But I don’t think I’ve seen any poster who is 100% EV and has no interest whatsoever in any ICE car. Anyone in that camp put your hand up?

I think you smokescreen a bit there to be honest, because of course everyone will have actually owned an ICE car before electric anyway. I'd put you far more in the electric camp than ICE camp for example(absolutely nothing wrong with that either by the way), and if you lost your ICE car for example for whatever reason, I don't think that you'd actually miss it in my view, because you're so happy with your electric car to me as it is.

I’m not talking about people who have never owned an ICE car. I meant those who have totally switched over to EV and wouldn’t entertain any future ICE car alongside their EV. Money no object obviously.

As for myself, I’m literally window shopping for an ICE sportscar at the moment because I’m thinking of selling my 911 for a bit of a change (having owned half a dozen or more 911s over the last 3 decades).

+1

Tesla Model 3 LR on order.

About to start shopping for a fun weekend car - Shortlisted to E92 M3, Jaguar F Type, 981 Cayman with wildcards of Lotus Evora and 370Z Nismo. That'll be kept along our other weekend car - my wifes 2020 Z4 (her pride and joy and which is, apparently not being sold.
).

But apparently having an EV nullifies all that.

It will be a fun day if or when I ever get an EV on here I reckon! hehe

I will be absolutely ripped to pieces I'd imagine for back pedaling on my love for ICE...and I'll need my tin hat that day for sure. biggrin

Of those who have experience with EVs how does power delivery vary between different manufacturers

Thinking the performance cars like the taycan etron GT, BMW I m cars etc?

IME it varies a bit more than you might think. At least in terms of the way the throttle pedal is mapped. But also in the way torque is delivered initially and over sustained acceleration. Some EVs deliver a brutal initial kick and then fade away. Others feel slightly constrained initially and then build power. Tesla tends to be in the former camp, although current Performance models pull very strongly well into 3-digit speeds. The Taycan 4S I drove had a very conservative throttle map, even in Sport mode and didn’t feel that quick unless flooring it. Perhaps the best EV power delivery I’ve experienced was from a Lotus Emeya. Unlike most EVs it feels most impressive in its midrange acceleration and the motors were deliberately geared that way. This was the “low” powered 600 hp version and whilst the 0-60 was pretty quick at 4.2 seconds, it was the 30-100+ which really impressed. Rather than tailing off it absolutely rips through the mid range and feels unstoppable. I can only imagine what the 900 hp version is like!

One thing they all have in common is instant pedal response and great modulation. I think Tesla still has the most intuitive pedal mapping. For example I drove a Polestar 3 and thought that was way too sensitive on the throttle at very low speed. The Tesla pedal is so easy to modulate power despite the brutal delivery if you floor it. It’s not the on/off switch you might expect. The Taycan pedal seemed a bit tame to me, requiring a lot of pedal travel to wake it up. I never took it out of Sport mode for that reason.

All a bit tricky to explain really, but they are all a bit different.

Dunno Lee, was there a time you could never have seen yourself wanting a diesel? How did you feel about changing your mind when you found one you liked?
