I can only remember Go Kart like steering from when I had my Ka Luxury in 2004.

If not your tyres ? There must be something wrong with yours because there's no way you could use the word vague to describe the Ford Ka's steering.

Looking forward to your progress, brilliant stuff.

The missus had the street ka, and whilst it was utterly gash in a straight line and i looked like Donkey Kong in mario kart driving it - it cornered very well and i actually enjoyed driving it. Cracking little cars these.

Edit: she also owned a 1L version before that, build quality wasn’t that great as you’d expect for a cheap ford but i remember spanking that around tight twistys in wales and again it was very good. Only car we’ve owned that sold for more than we bought it for.

Seems a shame to make it into a track car considering its condition and its rarity after most are succumbing to rust. May be a collectable car in the future.

Best handling car ford have ever made pound for pound. Sunday morning trip to get the milk turned into a 10 mile detour. Especially good at speed humps as I recall. Definitely some witchcraft going on with parry jones at that time, as all his other cars were superb. A rare thing, someone good at his job left to get on with it. Wouksnt happen now. Didn't go unnoticed, several autocar staffers wondered why cars costing 30 times more weren't even close.
the handling really was something special

I wonder how much you can improve the engine with a load of money thrown at it and the rest of the car

Someone was selling a widebody Ka that was done like the Racing Puma, stunning shell. That with the 1.7 or maybe even a 2.0 Zetec unit would be something special.

The handling on the Ka's was / is superb, I wouldn't call it vague at all!

Interesting to read the views on here, I am a massive fan of the Ka, having owned around a dozen over the years. Sadly they do rust, but other than that i just love them! Last one was a Sport, and I loved it the best, but it went as the rust spread.

Half on the lookout for a really really clean Sport to keep forever!

The steering and brakes are woefully vague? No, that isn't: "as you'd expect as you'd expect" at all, I've only driven a couple of KA's but the steering felt pin-sharp (to the point of nervousness in one case) and don't remember the brakes so they must have been fine. Didn't this basic architecture underpin the Puma?
Your Ka sounds a bit broken if the steering is vague... hehe
