Hyundai IX35 sunroof stuck open

We have a 2011 Hyundai IX35 and the sunroof is stuck open, will not close.
It's been at a local auto electricians for the last few days and they are struggling to close it, they say the mechanism is rusty and seized up, probably never been opened or cleaned. Worried the car may be scrap if can't close.
Any suggestions please?
