Will let you know once its fitted and tested as I wouldnt want to dish out misleading info.

My 220 is mapped right to the limit so looking at ways of reducing cylinder head temps a little, its mainly at idle (heatsoak) and below 30mph where it sits between 93c to 100c, at which point the low speed fan kicks in. If I can get that temp closer to 90 at all times it shouldn't affect mpg and can only help performance a little as timing won't be knocked back when its hot.

I've ordered a batch of these thermostat, they are made by the OE manufacturer, and are the correct size with bypass disc as per original which is important to maintain. If anyone is interested let me know.

Well I thrash the titties off my 600+bhp car as hard as anyone else and my water temps have never been a problem.

I agree completely, before I changed the cooling system ie front mounted oil cooler, I never had a prob with water temps, and as Adrian said oil temp never went over 110, even when we had the probs with the laminova and high oil temp my water temp never went past 97, and now my temps are accurately taken from the ecu.
Graham said the problem lies with oil temps I agree, if you can keep the oil temp down then my car would do 30 lap stints on track. water/meth spray would be better, also help keep plug temps down.

The first batch of thermostat's have come through and they look like this -

180F instead of 190F, OE fitment with the jiggle pin for easier bleeding and the bypass disc.

Did the swop tonight for anyone interested.

Near enough identical in terms of fitment, obviously not branded Motorcraft.

My original has a rubber edge on the inner part of the stat, however a small section has broken away, doesnt look to have affected the sealing of it but will have perished and cause a slight restriction on initial opening.

Mine is from 2003 and is the original, well worth changing in my case.

Original is 188F (87c) and new is 82c, minor difference but enough!

Both stats were removed from boiling water at the same time, notice the cooler one is more open as you would expect.

Warm up from cold was unaffected and heater still stinking hot.

Much prefer my engine being in the 85c to 95c range than 90c to 100c..it all helps.

I have a couple more spares so let me know if you are interested. They had to be imported from the states as I couldnt find anywhere in the UK.

First ones that asked are first on the list, i've got some more being imported, as there has been quite a demand for them! Road tested today and given some serious stick, i couldnt get the temp over 87c, which isnt bad.
