I’ve run sheds for many years but at 66 I find myself with £10k to spend on something as new as possible. This will hopefully last a lot of years.

I’ve got a 2013 208 which I bought cheap just now which is okay but I just want a bit of a change. It doesn’t need to be fast but not a plodder either.

Any ideas apart from the obligatory Corsa or Jazz?

Would you not like something interesting?

You must have an interest in cars to be on here so why not treat yourself and get something fun?

Thanks.

Some interesting stuff that wasn’t on my radar but just the kind of thing I’m looking for. I seem to have got focussed on the Fiestas and Corsas of this world and forget other choices are available biggrin

I’ve been into bikes for many years for my thrills and I hate to admit it on PH but a car is just for getting from A to B to me. But that’s not to say it shouldn’t be as nice a car as possible.

Any other suggestions are welcome.

You might as well get from A-B with a bit of pace & grace so if it was me I'd go for the Astra GTC VXR they're a very good steer with a nice turn of pace for when you need to get somewhere swiftly.

There also practical with a big boot & a smart interior:

You also benefit from Vauxhall running costs.

So what do you ride?

Nice cars but with the drawback is that they aren’t much younger than my current 2013 208. I’m not keen on dropping £10k on a car that’s no newer than mine.

Maybe that’s wrong or looking at it the wrong way but that’s how I feel.

Just now I’ve got a Sprint GT. Before that a ZZR 1100 and GSXR 750.

Nice bike, there's nothing wrong with that view & with that in mind I'd say go for the 1.6T Astra in either SRI VX Line Nav 200 form:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202012287...

Or the more subtle but better equipped Elite Nav 200

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202101158...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202012086...

You can extend the Manufacturer's Warranty on these too, there a decent steer & tick your boxes whe it comes to the mix of pace spec & age.

How small is smallish?

If you're wanting rid of the 208 is a supermini too small? Also are you needing 5dr or is a 3dr an option?

Just helps narrow things down a bit.

I would say so far it's a smart, small family hatch with warm performance and these do seem to offer great value. Also you'll look less of a yob than you might in a full blown hot hatch (says the 49yr old with a fiesta ST).

Seat Leon 1.4 FR.

Alfa Giulietta 1.4.

Hyundai i30 turbo. These are very similar to the Kia ceed GT but very rare and I think quite interesting. The Kia has a bit more poke and is possibly the better car but I think there's something about the i30 turbo. It was only made for a year, 2016 I think. We've had two Hyundai now and both have been faultless.

Or there's the Astra mentioned above. Lots of car for the money.

The 208 is fine sizewise.

I’ve had Corsas and Fiestas so it doesn’t bother me to drop down in size slightly.

If you wanted to go for small and a bit nippy but also keep a bit of practicality then...

Swift sport 1.4

Picanto GT line S 1.0

Both would be around 2 years old for your budget with low miles and should be reliable for many years.

My neighbour has recently retired and after years of big company cars has just bought a fairly new Suzuki Ignis. It's a funky looking thing and he likes the mini SUV style driving position. Not fast but I don't think they're too bad from reviews. Top spec ones come fully loaded.

Or if it's a supermini you're after then you can't go far wrong with a Fiesta. Get a fairly sporty ST line in the new shape. But I can't see it being much different to your 208 and you said you wanted a change.

Can you get a 1 litre Picanto GT-Line S for £10k?

I spotted a pair of white 2017/8 models at my local Kia dealer today, £10k and £10.5k. I just checked, and they both have the slower 1.25 n/a engine.

I've had my 1 litre S for 16 months, and it's a great little car for the money. Reminds of a more refined and far better equipped take on the junior hot hatch theme - a modern XR2.

Well that idea went South quickly.

I’ve just put a deposit down on a 6 month old ST-line Hybrid Fiesta at a *bit* more than £10k.

I really shouldn’t be let out on my own. hehe
