I’ve just been on the Tesla website. They have dropped the price of the Model 3 SR by a further £2500 so you can now buy one for £40440. My brother in law was going to buy a used 20 plate for £26500 but is now switching for a new vehicle. What gets me is I recently went to service my Renault and they had their new Megane EV in the showroom for £40000. The Megane has nowhere near the options which are included in the Model 3 , performance or tech let alone access to the supercharger network. The Megane EV would need to be sold for maximum £35000 but realistically £33000 imo to compete. I have a feeling Renault ( and most other legacy manufacturers ) are well and truly stuffed.

The continual price drops would indicate that it's Tesla that are stuffed.

And current owners,

You would think at that value they would drop it the extra few £400 so as to drop them initial tax rate (it are electric cars exempt from individual luxury car tax rate?)

You have to look at New Inventory cars. These are either on the boat or already in country. Model 3 £40,470. Model Y £44,320.

Yep. If you look into their manufacturing costs they are in a very strong position to keep reducing prices.

I noticed over the weekend that there are several long range model Y (not looked at any other models) at £3k off list price in new inventory

That's not a price drop, that's them looking to shift a limited number of unsold cars in their network. If they've got a car in stock with the spec you want great, if not then you're paying the list price still?

Probably, but what spec variations are you looking for in a Tesla?

Agreed. I would think most M3 are sold in standard spec with a colour variation.

Call it a discount, call it moving unsold stock, £2500 off is still £2500 off!

I have to say, at £4000 advance and £457pm it is a compelling PCH offer for sure.

The thread is titled "Tesla dropped price again", I'm pointing out that isn't an accurate statement as there is a limited number of cars available with a limited number of options.

Want a red RWD with standard 18" wheels?
Or a grey RWD with white interior?
Or a blue RWD with white interior and standard wheels?

Most M3's are sold via lease companies for the company car/salary sacrifice market, private buyers of £40k+ cars have a habit of being a bit more picky with spec usually.

How is it "probably"?

I've found the Red RWD on 18" with nearly £1000 off...

Kudos

It would appear that if you're putting these discounted inventory via a business it's via PCP or cash only. No business contract hire option (spec a new one, click Business - there are 4 options as opposed to only 3 options under Inventory), compared to the Inventory. Does this mean can't claim VAT back on the Inventory stock? So no cheaper by my quick view, or am I missing something?

Its not a good look is it? At the end of every quarter, you get discounted cars and this pattern is now forming. Might even see free supercharger miles thrown in by the time the end of March comes.

Don't train your customers to wait for offers as they won't sell very well when they are full price. Just ask Jaffa cakes for the same learning smile

If it’s true that Tesla have been able to reduce the manufacturing costs by 30% on the model 3 since its been launched and they are now saying they have the ability to reduce manufacturing costs by 50% on the new generation platform then imo they will bring the model 3 and Y down further.

So if the new Model 2 is retailed for £25000 to £29000 i would guess they would have a SR model 3 for eventually £36000/£38000.

This is purely based on if they genuinely can reduce manufacturing costs but from all accounts Ford are not making profit now on the Mach E since they have had to price reduce to match the Model Y.

What ever way you look at it the model 3 for £40000 really does look like good value.

This. Aside from the US, Tesla sales are in the doldrums despite price reductions earlier this quarter.

His margins are huge and he can undercut the entire market as no other OEM can produce EV's as cheaply as Tesla.
