How are the standard Michelins in the snow with the GR? Any good, or best to go for an 'All Seasons' tyre fir the winter months?

Michelin have just released a crossclimate 3 sport. Crossclimate 2 in the snow in Hampshire over winter and the grip was incredible. The 3 sport is even grippier than the 2 so will swap out after next winter when mine are done.
'Agree, I fitted CC2s for an Alpine trip where they were excellent, then left on for a year back home, honestly didn't notice any difference as I'm no track warrior. In the slushy, autumn leaves, standing water and pot holed Sussex B roads they were brilliant. Also gives off MTB/gravel bike vibes which I think is what this anywhere, any conditions, car is best at!

Thanks, and yes they are both very different beasts. I guess I wanted the GR to feel rawer, and as a driving experience it feels aloof, soft, and detached compared to the Elise. That said when it's on the boil and on the right bit of road, it is a fantastic thing to behold. So I feel that I need to give it perhaps a year to see how I get on, and in the meantime keep the Elise in it's garage rather than sell it. Just need to learn how to use the infotainment system, and sort out the temperamental tyre pressure warning thingy, so that they don't spoil the party.
That's a great two car garage you have there...enjoy.

I have a gt4 and a Gr Yaris. Warm summers evening out for a blast I’m always taking the gt4. But I love the GR, I can get the back seats down and find it pretty good on the motorway. For me it comes alive in wetter / colder conditions where you can still have a bit of safe fun whereas previous performance cars would leave me terrified. On a longer trip the other day I touched 40mpg.
I run Michelin pilot sport 4s and have found them great in the cold in conjunction with the 4wd system.
I would love to give it a power bump and maybe a louder exhaust, for a bit more drama but wanted to keep warranty. I’ve had it nearly 4 years from new and done 38k miles and it’s never had a suggestion of an issue. Only thing that does my head in is the 6k service intervals.
As like most pistonheads users I’m always looking on Autotrader and thinking about changing but ultimately I don’t think there’s anything that comes close for the money.

It also has lots of Tipex in the service record.

There’s also a white car up for sale with £38k with 10 miles on the clock (seems to be a bit of a trend in old Ford enthusiasts tucking these away) that hasn’t had any servicing whilst being stored so is overdue 2 services. Pretty sure the 10 year Toyota relax warranty wouldn’t work for this.

That’s a bit silly given the low price of servicing these things. Mines just ticked 11k and is fully serviced by RRG in Macclesfield, who have been great to deal with. The servicing plan costs me £60month for my miles, with each service costing in the region of £400. It’s chump change for the performance they offer. Great little car with a solid warranty. Why anyone would skip servicing is beyond me.

Agreed x3 - the app keeps track of it so there is no excuse for lapses.

Plus I get a complimentary insurance excess insurance with each service.

I’ve gone specialist with my new one rather than Toyota so my app won’t show but the service book is stamped.

I have a gen2, 300 miles in and thinking ahead on servicing, out of interest which specialist do you use? Does it still retain the manufacture warranty?

I used a specialist dealer in Hampshire. Mainly Honda focussed but they service a few GR Yaris’s. Regarding warranty the law states as long as it’s VAT registered then the warranty stands. Can always switch to Toyota after the 3rd year to gain the relax warranty.

Think you’ve quoted the wrong bit but the app we were talking about is the MyToyota app. It records each car journey but also a digital service book. However its accuracy is questionable based on who at your dealership is entering the information. Even buying spare parts has resulted in “repairs” listed in the app with no context other than “repair”.

Yes, you're right. I'm a moron, that's probably why I didn't know about the app biggrin

Am I able to set the app up myself or does it have to come from the dealership?

Although the thought of it recording each journey might be somewhat unwelcome!

Well, I'm not using it for ram raiding, etc but if it's recording every journey - even just the basic stats - I might have difficulty 'explaining' some of the fuel consumption figures frown
