Yep it’s all about reading the road ahead , the amount of drivers who brake coming to a roundabout when the exit is clear really annoys me when sat behind such individuals. So as said a good road driver should get miles of life out of pads but does depend on types of journeys taken

Mine was in for a service a few weeks ago and they said the front pads are 78% worn after 6k miles.
That's at the dealer though so I have my doubts.

And 78%, what sort of OCD tech comes up with that number biggrin
It should me in mm, and more likely to be the reciprocal value - 22% worn - unless you have been tracking it.
I had a quick look through the spokes at the weekend and there's plenty of meat on the pads.

I've always considered myself light on brakes although with the Yaris I was doing a lot of local journeys and taking as many opportunities to incorporate interesting stretches of road as I can. Now I've moved house, albeit not that far, a lot more driving is commuting at 50mph on a fairly straight road.

The car's not been on track in my ownership.

I got 32,000 km out of the original pads, including 8 days in the Alps and a visit to a certain racetrack in western Germany.

I changed to EBC RP-1 and only got 17,000 km from them with pretty much the same mix of driving including a Pyrenees/Alps trip and a track session.

Currently running Ferodo DS2500 as I said, been on for around 15,000 km. Will take them out and have a look at how they are wearing when I change to my winter wheels in the next week or two.

67k miles for first pads and discs for mine - is cdixon left foot braking all the time or using the pedal as a foot rest?
Yes trail braking to balance the car around bends as I find on stock suspension it responds well to it. I also brake late.

And no I never ride the brakes… Pet hate of mine following people down hills with their brake lights on, although I do understand Tesla, etc.. will auto brake on lift off.

Do you get out of 1st gear?

I m not as extreme as him but just fast road driving I got 30k. With track driving I ve just managed 10k.

I certainly don't hang around, probably don't spend enough time slowing down............
A very good road driver should get very good miles out of a set of pads even if driving quickly most of the time.

I followed Flemke with his mate driving who I would regard as the best driver I have ever experienced on road and track, I remember commenting after driving through France,Germany and Belgium at high speed that I thought his Porsche brake lights were not working properly as they hardly ever came on.
Agreed, Always found my Porsche(s) to be the same… My original comment was around the OEM pads from Toyota being rapid wear when pushed hard especially when descending down alpine passes. On autobahns or flat roads etc, they will last considerably longer.

All in jest smile

I'd never claim I'm a particular skilled driver - though. others have said I'm quite smooth and considered with my inputs. I

had an Audi S3 driver try to demonstrate his prowess this morning on a roundabout - just one long squeal of understeer from hamfisted cornering.....

I had a symbol come up on the dash this morning and I can't quite identify what it means.

It's a blue square with a white car in the middle. The symbol was at the top left.
However, if I select the screen that has the LTA and TC on/off indications then the mystery symbol moves to the middle.

Having looked through the handbook there's a chance it could be the symbol for 'Motorway Entrance' (P193 of the Mk1 handbook) but since my commute is single carriageway A road there are no motorway entrances to trigger the symbol.

Is the car showing signs of Italian character in the cold?

A photo may help. Grab one if it comes back.

It s a camera based system. It could have picked up a sign that it thought looked similar. I ve previously had a European speed sign from a sign that it misread.

Will do.
When I stopped in the car park it had changed to the red circle with the speed on it (never knew the car park had a 5mph limit!) so unable to photograph.
The symbol didn't return on the way home so I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Blue quare box signs are information signs, the dash is indicating a sign applicable to the section you are entering when it comes on.

It's an information sign used in many countries to indicate you are entering a road section with a change of construction or status, for example going from dual carriageway to single carriageway or leaving a motorway slip road onto an A road.

That's the one thanks.
I've never seen it before despite yesterday's road being on my normal commute.

Must've been upset by the temperature and the screen being a bit frozen around the sensor/camera for a while.

The answers above. It’s a camera based system. Something has made it think it’s seen that sign.

I got them for £750 with crossclimate 2’s and autel TPMS from an old boy on one of the owners groups as he’d sold the car, had kerbed 3 of the 4 wheels and couldn’t get the TPMS to work.

They’re OZ Ultraleggera 8J ET35.

I woke the TPMS with a friends Autel tool so they work on the car and I keep debating on getting them refurbed as I feel shame when people look at the damage not caused by me. But for winter wheels I don’t want to have the fear of damaging them so they will stay that way for now.
