Odd how we haven’t heard much, maybe the chip shortage etc has delayed production

When I was at the dealership looking at the Yaris (Oct ish) I enquired about the GR86 and they said they expected to have demo cars in early Jan.

I'm having a wobble over actually spending £66,000 on a Lotus Emira and my cheaper backup plan is a GR86 as I absolutely loved my Fennsport tuned GT86. Do we know the U.K. list price yet? It didn't seem to be on the Toyota website.

My plan would be to buy new, then as the warranty expired start tuning it up. For my B Road blasting anything more powerful (and wider) isn't probably a good thing and is just more expensive.

Any good forums yet for the GR86 in the U.K.?

I think Toyota's warranty is 5 years.

I fear that although I expect the GR86 will be a very good car, it still won't sell. It's predecessor was released to great press acclaim but never was that big a seller in this country. It's a bit like the Evora which is a really good car which never caught the buying public's imagination. Lotus had to rename it Emira and re-body it to get the recognition which it deserved. Will Toyota have to do the same?

It should be 10 years now, provided you get the car serviced with them, they'll keep extending it up to that point.

Mine was decat and my dealer didn't seem to mind at all. In most cases as long as the modification doesn't cause the item or component in question to fail then they should be okay with it.

Is there a formal process to place a deposit? I called my local dealer back in December to try and register my interest and the lady on the other end of the line didn't even know which model I was referring to - so not overly hopeful about hearing back from them.

I think this car will sell well. I'd like to buy one as I see this as perhaps my last chance to buy from new a traditional ICE sports car. And it'll only be available till 2024 so I think will hold value very well. Toyota are already on a roll with the Yaris

Having accepted that a 911 continues to be some way off, I'd started to look at 981 Caymans, but when you're talking £30k ish for a near ten year old car there's always been a niggle.

The GR86 has really got me interested, probably going to call a few garages and speak to a good friend who works at Toyota to see if I can get any updates on timings - will share if I do.

Everything I've read and watched makes this look like the ideal second car, I'm thinking track bRed, neptune blue or halo white in premium spec.

I spoke to a Toyota dealer last week who suggested that September was looking likely, hopefully you can get a clearer idea.

I know, I was expecting him to say April. I was so gutted I didn't ask him any more questions. He did seem to think that September was in the Spring, so maybe there is still hope. That was Toyota Bishop's Stortford.

When I spoke to our contact at head office in December, all he was able to share was that European production was due to start in March/April, and the first UK cars to arrive late summer.

(Things could have changes again since then though)

Rumours that they are strangling the engine to meet latest emissions regs and hence the delay - any truth to that?

Hope not, where did you see that?

I've attempted to get my head around the regs, with no luck. Surely such a low volume car wouldn't hugely impact them as a manufacturer, especially one that has such a big hybrid/electric focus already.
