Trying to find real world fuel consumption figures for these as looking to get one as a "Day Van"

Apocryphally I hear that there isn't much to choose between the 2.4 four-pot and the 3.5 V6. is dat right? In terms of physics you have about two tonnes of vehicle to move so you will need a certain amount of energy to do so, in theory the difference should come down to how heavy your right foot is.

Also there is the 2.4 Hybrid. My experience of a Rav4 hybrid is that the hybrid helps with urban short haul journeys but make little to no difference on motorway trips. Same here?

Are both engines chain cam or belt? I think the 3.5 is a 7 or 6 speed twin clutch auto while the 2.4 is CVT. Is there much difference in reality?

Thanks for any help

Not sure if this is a help, the Alphard/Vellfire is the 2GR-FE 3.5V6 but the 2GR-FSE 3.5 in my Crown gets around 27mpg combined on an average month (it's a reg. 6sp auto), though once saw 40+ in perfect conditions in Europe.

You have identified correctly that it's around town that kills the economy and I can drop right down to 23~25mpg but then go over 30mpg on a long motorway journey.

What you could try and do is use google translate "Toyota Alphard/Vellfire AH20" with key words like "review" or "long term test" into Japanese and put that into YouTube because even if the review is in Japanese then they usually put up the figures (Japan uses km/l) to see, of course if you can speak/read Japanese that last part is irrelevant biggrin
