Finalised spec today with 2nd deposit.

Verdant, Manual, Lower black pack, Sports Chassis, Cup 2, Silver ultra-light wheels, yellow calipers, Alcantara interior/steering wheel, no privacy glass.

Looking forward to my first new Lotus in 20 yrs, since a Mk1 Exige.

Almost snap, apart from I've gone for the touring setup and black calipers.....

Went to see the car last night, did anyone else find the seats lacking lateral support? I forgot to ask the Lotus guys whether the seats were final production "American" spec or whether the production seats would be a bit more body hugging.

I did notice that on Harry's video the driver did say the seats in the test car weren't final versions.

Seats in the blue show car are not the final seats. The sitting position is higher than it should be in blue show car, the final production car will have a lower sitting position.

I know that the seats in the blue car are currently more padded than the actual production version so you will sit lower, but that doesn't help the fact that the sides of the seat in the blue car may provide lateral support of you are built like a prop forward but for me I had a good couple of inches space either side. Anyone with leather only seats could be sliding around the cockpit like in one of those American trucks with a bench seat. Not what I would want in a sports car or even a GT.

Colours are Volvo colours. The grey is Volvo saville grey same as my wife’s v60. All the samples had the Volvo name as well as the lotus name on the back. I am now looking out for red Volvos to see what the colour looks like on a car

I've had a huge wobble today on config (it will be an i4). I was going Yellow or Green but today I suddenly thought about the shadow grey but with a red interior and take the alloys and repaint them gold/bronze?

The Shadow grey looks dark grey on the configuration but in the real world its not far off black. I have a think for dark metallic grey and gold wheels.... Its only £700 to get the wheels repainted. Possibly less if I let them use the result in promotions locally.

Any thoughts?

I even thought that I could dabble with some tasteful JPS type wrap? I wish I had some photoshop skills to dabble but I just have to use my minds eye.

The Lotus replaces this:

That's interesting. I will do the same.
I've gone off Verdant Green - too dark. Nimbus Grey looks a lot more silver than grey to me so I am not considering Magma Red. They're appeared to be one in the factory in the background in the Harry's Garage video and it looked a lot brighter than the configurator suggests.

The chap on the phone when I put my stage 2 deposit down definitely said your spec is not locked in at this point. It is for their information. Final decision is stage 3 deposit when the order is actually confirmed. So on that basis I may change from Touring to Sport suspension and change colour. Definitely having the black pack though, whatever the colour.
  1. Maybe this is Magma?

I think it is.

I didn’t think to take a pic of the Volvo names, but I recognised the silver as being the colour of my mates new XC60, the dark grey is definitely Saville Grey and I reckon the blue is the Polestar blue Volvo use.

Good info on the Volvo colours.

Does anyone know what Volvo call the dark green? I feel it will be too dark but if I can locate a Volvo in the colour that will help me decide for sure. smile

The dark green is very dark. Close to black in some lights. I took the sample outside into the sun yesterday and think it looked good, but Mrs B is not a fan of green frown

Really annoyed with myself that I didnt note the volvo colour names down. Th only one I can remember is Saville Grey

At last night's reveal in Manchester, they had larger car shaped colour swatches as well as the small discs.

On the underside of the green one, it said dark verdant / empire green

As I have said many a time in these threads, go drive an Evora with sports chassis, the Emira on Goodyear tyres will be same or better and Emira on Cup tyres will be the same.

In short:

Touring / Goodyear - hugely compliant and subtle, best traction in wet but maybe a bit too soft for track work.
Touring / Cup 2 - Makes zero sense, your miss matching the tyre to the damper rate, would even potentially result in an aggressive break away, hence the cup 2 tyres is NOT available with touring.
Sports / Goodyear - Still compliant, still great grip in all conditions on the road and still great on track.
Sports / Cup 2 - Compliant but harsher, grip on road will be less unless its a 20c plus sunny day, grip in the wet will reduce, grip in the wet under 10c will be vastly reduced and grip in around 3c conditions will be vastly lower than Goodyear, braking on slippery wet surfaces will be severely compromised and risk of aquaplaning at motorway speeds in the wet.

I would only specify Cup 2 tyres on a car that is doing a lot of track work or is a Summer weekend only use car, otherwise the Goodyear will give you far more driving pleasure and better compliance on the road.
Curious about your comments on the Cup2. They certainly need to be treated with respect in cool or damp conditions, but my experience of them is that the compound is so soft they don't need anything like a 20c plus sunny day to start giving simply massive grip. The latest Harry's Garage Emira vid was shot on an overcast day at Hethel in late October, and the Lotus guy driving comments on how much grip there is on track with the Cup2s. My Emira will be fair weather toy and I will do a few trackdays, so I have specced Sports suspension and Cup 2s. However I agree that for most people driving in mixed conditions the Goodyear would be the better choice.

It’s very easy to put heat into tyres on a track, lots of braking from 100mph plus will do that.

A wet freezing day on the road and cup tyres can be very dicy, especially for people who are used to more regular road tyres and are not say your typical Lotus customer.

I’ve an Exige on cup tyres and last night in -1C weather the grip was poor and took a good ten minutes to put some heat into and even then the grip was so so, had it been wet they would of been poor. Whereas Goodyear or PS4 tyre would be a transformation grip wise on the road in such conditions.

For those using as a daily the Goodyear tyre is the far more sensible choice especially if driving year round.

My Evoras were not that pleasant on Pirelli’s or MPSS on days when thee temps were below about 6 degrees. They would let go very suddenly and quite unpredictably. They were much better on wintry tyres.
