Some people have a much higher tolerance for niggles, paint defects and reliability but they don't have the right to tell anyone else that paint defects on a brand new car are acceptable. For £90k you should not have paint defects. Have you seen the fuss people make here about the colour of their brake calipers and stitching? No new car should and Lotus's failure to fix the problem raises the questions of what other issues are hidden in places you can't see. Older Lotus cars were generally painted very well, I never had any paint issues in over 6 cars owned.

Lotus promised a state of the art new paint facility in Hethel, the best in Europe. It turns out to be one of the worst. Part of me feels for Lotus, it must be agony for them and costing a fortune in warranty claims but the essential thing is for them to get on top of the problem and get it fixed which they still haven't done. It's beyond disappointing it's tragic.

Ive got the internet. I’ve got bubbling paintwork. Neither of those things mattered whilst I was out this morning.
Apologies if you’ve already mentioned this but did you buy yours before the poor paintwork issues became widely known about, or after?

Reading various posts about the large number of issues customers are having, the poor aftersales, very poor presentation of used cars at main dealers, I can’t see these holding there money, why would anyone with access to the internet take such a big risk??
Because they're not obsessed with mindless conversations between people who probably don't own said car or if they do are the kind who are more interested in thinking about it that driving the bloody thing.

I was out in mine this morning - hunting for some super-unleaded because for some reason two of the stations I usually get it from were out - and after managing to find some I took it for a quick blast up the A3 and then back via the country lanes. What. A. Car. Just what a brilliant fking car. Just absofkinglutely brilliant. Stick it in sports for a bit - then go one further into track once you're ready - just what a fking car. Absofkiglutely brilliant.

But let's go back to talking about the paint issues eh?
Paint issues are relevant to the ownership experience and worth discussing it was a major concern for me. Just because you don’t care about paint issues doesn’t mean others don’t. Warranties will expire and it can be expensive.

Likewise the warranty process is awful compared with Porsche - the process is designed not to pay out. When I take my Porsche in for a warranty issue they check for other faults and resolve them for me I’ve not seen this happen with my dealer.

These are all factors people care about, if you end up with issues you’ll soon change your tune.

I bought mine 2nd hand this year, when the paint issues were known about.
It didn’t have any bubbling (or at least not that I noticed) when I bought it. But it’s on a driveway not garage at mine and has since had bubbling.

I’m booked in to get new doors this month.

I’m not sure how or why people are defending it. I’ve had 4TVR’s and 2 Nobles over the last 33 years and not seen anything like the state of some of the Emira’s I’ve looked at, nor anywhere near the amount of problems in 18 years of owning my Noble that some Emira owners have had within weeks of buying, some of the tales are a disgrace.

Today I went out in a highly tuned 7 speed manual Carrera T, and a GT4,they felt like they were built out of single block of granite. But I got bored,so it looks like I’ve cracked a deal on an Emira this afternoon!

PH prefers the glass half empty approach.
Do Caterham and Alpine get this much vitriol? How know the A110 were suffering fuel pump failures leaving a lot of owners stranded but I haven’t paid close attention to it all.

Prices on the rise?

A trade bid of £53k on a car with only a few months manufacturer warranty left looks quite high to me, given what newer lower miles examples are retailing for.
