Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but on the recent earnings call with investors the CEO was very clear that they were evaluating the viability of the 4.0 v8 AMG engine for the Emira as emissions rules mean they will likely have to phase out the v6. No commitment to actually doing it but let’s see

They would need to do something presumably so seems likely enough. A much more significant differentiator vs Porsche also. That AMG engine would put the Emira in a totally different performance class.

It would be a tad curious if they haven’t thought of it already and engineered the Emira accordingly. The Autocar article makes it sound like Lotus has just started to think about it.

Putting the LC500 v8 in with a supercharger would be nice and keep it different to the rest.

If they take the AMG V8, they could make a 1,500kg-ish sports car with 600+bhp. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of another one like it. If they up the boost a bit they would be in supercar territory.

The issue for me would be losing the manual, I can think of a current V8 and manual combination.

Going with a V8 and auto would probably increase sales and broaden its user appeal but for enthusiasts, another manual gone.

Mustang is v8 and manual.

The previous Vantage had a manual box with the AMG V8 so it can probably be done. It'd be a nice differentiator too.

I was answering the question about cars with a v8 and manual gearbox, not the likelyhood of Lotus adopting a different v8.

The Coyote engine is however inexpensive, naturally aspirated, full of character and by comparison inexpensive.

As much as I love my manual V6, most buyers want auto and most competitors provide that.

Mid engine V8 manual is very different to a front engine V8 manual.
What gearbox are you going to use?

I’m happy to leave this decision to Lotus to figure out but I suspect a manual would sell well by Lotus standards.

Yeah all the v8 manual options above are longitudinal, it will need to be transverse in the emira surely?

The V6 is £110k. A V8 would be more expensive and so sell fewer. For me the Emira looks like a V6 car, not a V8 car.
