Yorkshire Dales Rally on Sunday. I think it will be an interesting event especially as it is forecast to be wet all day.
Aw man not rain! I'm heading up to volunteer - I'm the Judge of Fact at one of the virtual chicanes. I'm particularly interested in them because they will be essential to a new event o am working on.

Rally season kicks off on Saturday here, I'm co-driving for a work colleague at a local rallysprint (he isn't running notes, I'm just ballast rather than a real co-driver) in his 4AGE powered KE70 Corolla on this fantastic stretch of road (3 runs in each direction)...
Well it was a fun day out, we had a gentle off during the second run and but no real damage (other than to the driver's pride), just needed a tow back onto the road.

Back into it and kept it clean getting much faster after that, and had plenty of fun which was the only real goal for the day!

Hard luck Ben , your driver needed more loud pedal as it’ll get you out of most moments, trust me laugh

hehe He said that himself afterwards too!

What happened was that he threw it into the corner pretty hard, grabbed a big armful of opposite lock (slow original steering rack), the rear bit and the wheel just slipped out of his hands as he went to wind the lock off - slippery steering wheel, no power steering and not very accustomed to driving in racing gloves. Suddenly spat left instead of turning right, and once off the swept cambered line onto the loose off-camber outside we were both passengers.

Debriefing afterwards we thought if he had kept his foot in harder mid corner then it might not have hooked up and snapped left as suddenly.

It was his first event with a new LSD and longer rear springs, much more traction than it had before - so a bit of a learning curve all round!

His upgrade list now includes a new steering wheel as well as a quicker rack wink, apparently an AE86 quick rack will swap straight in.

Was watching a lot of Le Touquet rally this weekend, there is a reason France have dominated the top echelon for a while, the level there in multiple classes is crazy.

The Yorkshire Dales Rally was definitely a wild event weather wise. High winds and heavy rain with occasional sunny spells. It seems to have been well received, so hopefully will return in 2028

I am all for banging the drum about closed roads UK stuff, it looked like Ireland in the coverage I have seen, all stone walls, yumpy crests and fast. Great it is there, that area has a penchant for doing things right, with sporting events, despite the fact it is hugely touristy.

Concerning news about the Mull rally. Apperently the Mull Rally Trustees have parted way with Mull Car Club. Leaving the running of the event in question.

I for one really hope we get a Mull Rally this year.
From Facebook (not from me - I am avoiding the whole situation!) :

Statement from Mull Car Club – 04/04/26

Mull Car Club is aware of the recent press coverage surrounding rallying on Mull in 2026 and understands the interest and discussion it has generated within the island and rally community.

We would like to confirm that the 2026 rally will be going ahead as planned, in line with the consultation shared with the community earlier in the year.

We are continuing to work closely with Argyll and Bute Council regarding the B8035 Gribun Rocks road. Current plans include the use of this route, and we are confident that this will be possible. However, a contingency plan is in place to ensure the event can proceed smoothly and to the high standard expected, should the situation change between now and October.

Mull Car Club remains fully committed to organising a safe, well-managed, and successful rally, as it has done for the last 15 years. As always, we aim to deliver an event that not only provides a unique challenge for competitors whilst showcasing the Isle of Mull, but also brings positive benefits to the local community and economy.

Mull Car Club has an experienced team working on the 2026 rally and further details will be available shortly. We appreciate the continued support and engagement of the islands residents and businesses, as well as competitors, marshals, officials and rally enthusiasts across the UK. We look forward to welcoming everyone to Mull on the 9th, 10th and 11th October 2026.

Really enjoyed it - the weather was pretty dramatic! I needed to get towed out of a field, it was so wet!

How did you find the virtual chicane worked?

From what I saw on Rali Ceredigion last year, there are definitely different ways drivers approach it.

Giving this one a miss and with them changing the date of the Plains, I won't be doing that one either.

Yes, will be co-driving in car 206, blue Micra. The route should feel very fresh to me as I've not done SS2/6 before and not done SS1/5 from south to north.

Not doing the management radio comms this time so probably won't see you this time. Same Micra as the RAC?

Ashley Group Dimanche Tour of Hampshire - Closed Road Rally

Farnborough District Motor Club (FDMC) are delighted to formally announce a new closed road stage rally, due to take place on Sunday 11th April 2027.

The event will be titled the "Ashley Group Dimanche Tour of Hampshire", the Dimanche Tour being an FDMC stage rally name resurrected from the 1970's.

The rally will be based in the Hart District of Hampshire, with the rally HQ and central service park being based at a local college. We are happy to welcome Ashley Group as title sponsors.

Ashley Group is a main contractor providing construction, maintenance and refurbishment services throughout London and the South East. FDMC are grateful to directors Sean & Colin Quigley, who are regular competitors.

The format of the event will be somewhat unique, in that it will consist of four identical stages in the same direction. With the stage length being just under 9 miles, the total stage mileage will be just over 35 miles, with road mileage being less than 20 miles.

One of the key objectives is to encourage single venue competitors to compete on closed roads for the first time in an accessible way, hence a compact route and value-for-money entry fee.

More information will be released, via the FDMC Facebook page, as and when it becomes available.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, or want to become involved in the event, please contact the team at dimanchetour@fdmc.org.uk
