Imagine that your car engine is a boat anchor. It works fine - no problems.

Now, go and secure £300 to said anchor. It feels better 'cos it's 300 quid, and the noise is fantastic. But will it actually make much difference?

Your Tiger has a relatively heavy engine in it, which actually defines the way the car goes, stops and corners.

If you just put the carb conversion on it, I doubt if there will be much in the way of measurable performance gain, but the noise will be better and because you spent £300 it will feel faster.

You can get more power out of the Pinto; but it will need to be able to rev faster to benefit from the carbs. To do that you may have to invest in head work and probably a sportier cam.

That will cost as much as swopping in a lighter and more modern engine. The lighter engine will make the car more nimble as well as giving more straight line speed.

In short, throwing a bit of money at the Pinto won't make much difference.

Bike carbs on a pinto do work and well ! but obviously head work cam changes etc make diifferences too, put them together and you have prob 150/160 reliable ,real, horses at sensible rpm ,I'm told Bogg bros in yorkshire are as good as any body and have a rolling road to set them up HTH Yes it is a heavy lump bit almost bullet proof !!

With no other mods a change to bike carbs on a standard 2.0 litre Pinto will give an increase of around 10 bhp with better driveability and a slight increase in fuel economy. Whether you think that this is worth the cost and work involved is entirely your decision.

Fr31or32is about ideal with bike carbs as said ,cam kit under 200 quid if your garage can't/wont fit pinto cam for circa £150 they don't want business so total outlay £7/800 +100 for rolling road set up ,hp in the 140/60 region reliable and strong, most non caterham owners would be happy with it. cam fitting may be cheaper if it poss with the cyl head on, clearance at the rear off engine neededHTH
