That's a beautiful machine. I shall follow this thread with interest.
I am very indeed glad the someone else has said it. That is a beautiful car. Isn't the Lexus manual conversion a bit complicated and pricey? I was thinking of doing one on one of my projects, as you can pick up an LS400 for peanuts, but it was the manual conversion that's putting me off. That and a bit of a packaging problem .
For this particular application, I'd be inclined to look at the ubiquitous Rover V8. I know it's not that powerful, but they'll produce a good 200 hp all day long with a mild tune, they're fairly small and light, fairly cheap, loads of parts available, and they make all the right noises.
I know it's not very PH, but a bigger (LS or Lexus) and more powerful engine of 300 bhp or more might not be what this car is about, although to be fair, I'm reaching the stage where the driving experience is more important than outright performance, and bumbling through the lanes with a nice V8 woofling away appeals to me more than setting sprint records.

Wow. Love this.
I've been toying with 'updating' an MGB with a newer engine and running gear, but this seems to offer a modernised version of something a lot more interesting. It looks fantastic with the wire wheels and an MX5+Eaton supercharger from a modern MINI shouldn't cost the earth, will give north of 200bhp in a sub 800kgs chassis which sounds to me like a lot of fun at a budget price.
Once my garage is extended, I can see me beating a path to MEV's door.

I would love to buy one ... only issue is i can't tell one end of a spanner from another, and I understand the the build manual isn't as details as i need ( slot tab a into tab b then turn clockwise)
As far as kits go this seems very straightforward with the hardest bit (in my opinion and knowledge of my own skill set) being drilling holes for the lights. Can imagine removing some rusted bolts to be a pain too.Do you have a tamed mechanic friend who can supervise in his spare time?

I was the same as yourself, zero mechanical knowledge. Fast forward 2 years and what once was an MX5 in my garage is now a recently completed MEV Exocet. There's more than enough resources online to help you complete all parts of the build.

920 lbs at 2900 rpm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1__V_druWo will this fit? Doubt the chassis will handle 1k of torque
How much of hassle to fit a BMW 6 cylinder didn't realise lexus was that much only a headache or is it the manual conversion that screws up the conversion.

But do you have DIY skills?Far more important than mechanical skills.
Bolting together the mechanical bits is small beer compared to cutting, trimming, bonding glass fibre, Wiring, upholstery, painting, design choice, colour choice etc etc.

Glad to see your are on top of getting the Replicar onto the stage at every opportunity Stuart, just as you should. It is a superb effort by your team. Humble apologies for not being there but I was in St Petersburg which is an awkward distance to pop back from. Car looks great and I do like the improvement in the shape. That is a seriously good looking stylish car!! I will get to see you this autumn but I am up to my ears in three kit car builds and IVA's and SWMBO insists upon regular foreign trips. Otherwise the 15 kit car attract serious trouble from the OH. Its a hard life, but I enjoy it!!http://www.mevowners.proboards.com/thread/4485/rep...
