Chaps,

My 2.0 Duratec has lost compression .....

I'm on tbs', special exhaust, etc .....

Any thoughts as the engines coming out, are there any real advantages replacing it with the 2.5 ?
Or any Gotcha's that will cost extra ££££

Cheers

IIRC the 2.5 is about 1" taller than the 2.0l so if bonnet clearance is tight this may be an issue. There is also a 2.3 to consider.

If you're on WSCC, ive got a thread running as Im currently going through a similar thing.

Crate engine seems a little overkill? Do you know why its down on compression?

I decided "better the devil you know" and had mine sorted for <£750 including new cams. Happy to take a PM on WSCC if you want to discuss (RussH)

If your going to skip your dead Duratec I'd be interested as I have several kit car projects and time to work on an engine

Thought about the MZR engine? Mazda's version of the Duratec, comes with forged pistons, rods and crankshaft too. I'm installing one in my car at the moment.

Bit of a thread resurrection, sorry 'bout that. Is that the 2.0 from the mx5? I didn't know they had forged rods and pistons as oem?!

Post the 2009 face lift on the MX5 they switched a few bits about and gave it a higher redline (by 500rpm). The suggestion was at the time they had switched to forged rods then. I presume the post 2009 2.0 engine must be a bit stronger because BBR will take it to higher power with their turbo kits etc.

(Early engines fitted with an early release of the cosworth supercharger bent a few rods, before it was pulled. Poor mapping, or soft rods, or both?)

Anyone know if the 2.0 with all ancillaries and manifolds from an mx5 fit a standard mk2 escort bay? Seems a reasonably easy way to get a duratec and 6 spd box into an escort...

Can i fit the forged crank, rods & pistons from a Mazda MZR 2.0 to a Ford Duratec ST 150 engine instead of buying aftermarket items?
I am only buliding a Mk2 Escort for road use, cheers

Just spotted this comment of mine extolling the virtues of my cheap rebuild.

It actually failed on the dyno with oil pressure problems, so I ended up spending just under 10 grand getting it built properly! (But that includes dry sump and new TB's)

So, I called that one wrong!

They will fit, but aftermarket is probably cheaper.
