Mods- I know wanted ads can be frowned upon, but this a bit niche - so hope a little leeway is given biggrin

Wife has her heart set on a 356 speedster replica, any pointers to decent ones would be appreciated.

We had one back in 2008, a decent car that we ended up selling for £14k, appears similar cars today are £25k. (Although I've budgeted £30k to get one of the best)

Ideal spec RHD, wind up windows, gearing and engine performance that supports decent motorway progress.

Spoke to a gentleman about his, which at first sounded ideal, however it has straight cut gears and what sounds like a cammy engine, so not ideal for Europe tours or trips to Aldi.

I tried to persuade the Mrs, a Boxtster Spyder would be better, but she is having none of it, the last 4 years have been tough for her (health wise), plus it's her upcoming big (BIG) birthday and as the saying goes 'happy wife, happy life'.

Hey OP, sounds like my wife.. as much as I tried to throw new Porsche metal at her, she just wanted a classic and nothing else would do.. Good luck with your search, loving looking cars those Speedsters...

Easier maybe .....but I think a divorce might cost me about 20 times as much...

She will then use her share to buy a real one biggrin

You have the wife that most of us dream about!

Stoneleigh is coming up in May I think, there's normally a fair few on display for sale then, otherwise it would be Hallmark Cars or one of the other Kit Car traders I guess, alternatively how about asking Peter at Chesil if he knows of anyone thinking of selling?

This is a strange coincidence, i came here to post a similar question. I'm thinking of buying one but can't work out which is best. There are a few builders, does anyone know of a replica speedster forum?

I thought I best update this thread, purchased one, about a month ago, a factory built car in 2012.

Already done around 350 miles, it's quite engaging on country roads, for a plastic tub on top of an early 70s beetle chassis. The wife loves it, although she has fractured her ankle (walking the dogs) which means it's up to me to drive it biggrin.

I'd love one of these as a Sunday car. Utterly beautiful but it was hard enough to justify a beetle with a frock at £20k, let alone what they command now! But I guess its a lot more than the sum of its parts, just look at it! Well done.

That looks ace.

A mate of mine has one and when it's parked next to my previous 987 Spyder you can see how dinky it is. He took me for a run in it and I've got to say on the road in traffic I felt pretty vulnerable to big things ... like lorries, buses, landrovers... err... Minis and Fiat 500s and even stout pedestrians. smile

I to have a soft spot for these, pretty cars. Not that Id drop that amount for one.

The Sebring Healeys are a similar situation as well.

I tried to get the mrs to want a Boxster Sypder instead, it would have been a better car for us, local runabout, Sunday fun and Euro tours.

However she was dead set on a Chesil.

Never driven a car that generates such a postive response from fellow motorists.
