Cobra replica weather protection

Anyone have views on what to look for in this respect when buying a Cobra replica? I guess that it mostly depends on what I expect to do with the car. But any views on how well hard-tops, soft-tops and tonneaus tend to work and how much they contribute to the experience? Cheers.

first try to get in and out with any roof on, i certainly couldnt with mine, so good weater car only for me.

The tonneau is great as a splash deck for overnight or when you don’t want anyone to peer in - bugger all use when driving about 15MPH though.

My soft-top is fine up to about 80MPH (in Germany sir!) and is generally leak free, I’ve driven in many a thumping downpour and wouldn’t do a tour without one.

I’ve not got a hardtop as I wanted wind in the (thinning!) hair motoring, and the hardtop is a bit final (once it’s on you won’t take it off), however others that have them swear by them for being quiet/warm/dry.

Thanks both. I take the point about it being a good weather car but my thinking is that some weather protection at least gives a plan B.

I used to get wet below about 50 if it rained but then I didn’t have any side windows ! Not much fun if a lorry overtakes you on the motorway ....

To be honest it was a rare event if I went out in the wet with a big yank V8 it was extremely easy to lose traction even when treating the throttle like driving on egg shells.

Used the tonneau frequently if leaving the car unattended.

as i said i couldnt get in mine with any sort of roof, but yesterday some one who is shorter, not so well built, younger and more flexible got in and it appeared he would be ok with a roof.. so it depends.

I had a fold down version on a Gd427, it was a hideous thing but did keep most of the rain out. Totally spoiled the cars lines too.
The side windows were perspex hinged on the windscreen but were a real pita.
For me personally I go hardtop if I ever had another.

I have a tonneau for mine, never used it in 5 years. The studs it clips to are a pain in the arse, snagging on things and they look horrible. I’d prefer they weren’t there and the the tonneau can stay gathering dust. I only use the car in nice weather anyway ... if I was looking for another cob I’d prefer one with no weather gear.

Tonneau. I suppose like you said it depends how it fits. Mine fit really well and was a doddle to put on in a few seconds.

As for weather gear .... Mine was also a fair weather car but I did on the odd occasion get caught out in the rain and was very glad for the roof even without windows !

I’m getting this lovely hard top fitted next week by Andy from 427 hard tops by far the best I’ve seen the workmanship is first class. Personally I think the car looks better with it than without.

Hard top fitted and painted, just the roof stripes to go I so happy it looks like a completely different car with it on.
