Hi guys,

Theres some recreation 300sl gullwings out there based on the SLK. I’ve seen quite a few pics & videos, one has famously has appeared st SEMA the last few years.

I can’t seem to find where to get one or any details of Kit/manufacturer. Does anyone have a contact for getting one of the SLK based gullwings?

I know the guy with the moulds but would need to ask him if he is happy to have details passed on.

He says he would make a body with lids and doors plus dash for £5800. £2000 deposit and balance on completion in 8 weeks

Weren't Mercedes kind of dicks about gullwing replicas previously? Seized and destroyed one for IP infringement?

looks like an interesting project - what chassis and running gear does it use, and is the glass readily available?

It uses the Merc SLK chassis and running gear, I believe you can use either the 170 or 171 SLK (but don't quote me on that lol)

I've no idea what glass it uses though.

Glass could be difficult if MB own the tooling, might be worth contacting Triplex et all before commiting to an expensive project.

Showing my ignorance here ……. Is it a body kit, or do these vehicles have a separate chassis rather than monocoque?

It's a re-body of an SLK.

More info here from some guys in the states that have done the same thing but have modernised the look a little.

If it doesn't use the SLK screen and surround, does that make it subject to IVA?

No idea, my knowledge on the subject is pretty much exhausted but I'd imagine so.

Hi Chris, that's odd I've not changed settings and Tony sent one ok? I'll have a look and see why.
