What happened to the Delfino Feroce project ?, their site is still up and showing pictures of the Minari based feroce prototype

Hi Italo,

Last communication I had from them was March 2005 in which they basically claimed everything was in place to start production and that they had a business plan 'in the hands of a few investors'.

Neil Yates of Adrenaline said that Minari had built a Subaru based prototype years ago which Adrenaline originally looked at putting into production themselves. However, the more they looked at it the more they wanted to change so they started a new design from scratch.

Guessing now (I'll try and get confirmation) that the 'Minari prototype' was actually the Feroce as both Minari and Delfino had the same designers.

Hi Graham,
I remember reading somewhere that the two guys that founded Minari, later developed the Feroce using the minari kit.

This is where I get confused now, we have two cars based on the same running gear and basic body ( Minari monocoque), with obvious styling differences, but basically the same project.
Maybe Delfino doesn't have the development money Adrenaline has with the Murtaya.
.

I wonder what is the story...but both cars have a lot of potential

How about a styling update of the Minari based Alfa boxer kit......

Adrenaline are planning an update, though not sure to what degree as all the Alfasuds rusted away years ago so they might need a new donor vehicle.

Hi guys,
just seen the posts/pictures and report on this car, and very exciting it is too.

I too remember the fast dissapearing Delfino!

I will be in the market for a Lotus Elise in a year or two, but if this is a fully fledged car by then I will definitely not dismiss it out of hand, the looks are ok in my eyes, not stunning, but then might look better in a different colour?

Will there be a forum for owners of this car, as would really like ot hear experiences from people who own and run them?

Thanks

Dan

There is a site being put up with Murtaya information. It is a private site (not owned or operated by Adrenaline Motorsport) and it has a diary of a person with an order for the Murtaya. You can watch the progress of his experience. Also, it might have a forum or at least a comment section, but it's still very early in the development stages (but I figured I'd post it since you asked...):

www.murtaya.com

Of course, we always have PH's forums.

I drove the Delfino many years back and as i said to the guys who made it it is was the fastest thing i have ever driven on the road - including my own not slow toy...

It was also brilliant fun. I always found driving an Imprezza made me giggle cos of the comic power delivery and fantastic chassis and this was exactly the same but multiplied. It really was amazing. I took it back with smoke coming off the brakes

I will have to try the Murtaya I think - cos was gutte that the delfino seemed to vanish or I'd have one. Dont think this one looks quite as good, but definitely not shabby IMO

I wonder what the cost of a top of the range (BHP) factory built Murtaya is and what the price differential would be if you provide donor parts like Engine, Suspension, Brakes. Their Website says very little.

I saw one of these the other day (we were off to land end) wondered what the hell it was, now I know

Thought it was a Z3/4 from the front then thought the back looked like an Elise

It's a shame the chassis is steel tubing and not the extruded ali job that Lotus and Aston have, especially as the key engineer worked with this material.

Also, here's an ideal opportunity to bring back coachbuilding for carbodies seeing as the looks seem to provoke positive/negative reactions. Surely a bespoke body in fibreglass wouldn't be too much over the top as far as cost, design could be done by Cov Uni etc...

Reliable and powerful Subura running gear in a lightweight aluminium chassis with bespoke coachbuilding of your preference for around 25-30K, I'd be interested in that!

I thought the chassis was a fiberglass monocoque..but could be wrong, but I like your thinking of bespoke coachbuilding.

You could modify and create different body shapes, using the same running gear....... it would help if you had a separate chassis, but you could design a new monocoque.

It isn't, it's a composite monocoque with a steel tube subframe at the front carrying the engine and suspension. Like I said in the article it's stronger than an Elise body/chassis assembly - and possibly lighter too.

Hi, for those of you that don't know this car evolved via the Delfino from another car - The Minari Road Sport. This was an Alfa Romeo 33 / Alfasud based kit car. The looks are very similar, though greatly muscled up on the Murtaya. I owned a Minari for several years, and it was an absolute hoot - almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution and handled absolutely superbly. It also went like a scalded cat!
As far as the potential for everyday use, performance and style, the Minari was head and shoulders above anything else available and still has a thriving Owners Register in the UK. Some were put off by the availability of the Alfa running gear, which will be no problem in the Murtaya. I've yet to see one in the flesh, but those I know that have say it is very impressive. Put it this way - if I had the money I'd put my name down for one right now. If you do, trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Further to my last - that'll teach me for posting before reading all the other posts thoroughly:

Some parts of the main monocoque tub look the same as the Minari, especially below the doors. Front and rear are definitely new. The hard top is exactly the same though will no doubt be improved upon.

The Minari was front wheel drive, so there's your answer for those wondering why 4WD.

The guys who did the Minari, then the Delfino, ended up taking their business and energies in a direction away from cars. Having achieved what they did, perhaps they fancied a different challenge. Certainly the Delfino project suffered from a lack of Subaru donors available at the time. Most available then were crash damaged, and as you can imagine, most of those were front impact damaged and so couldn't produce a complete kit of donor parts from one Scooby. Now AMS have linked up with Prodrive, there will be no stopping them.

Now had confirmation that the Subaru based Minari prototype Adrenaline 'inherited' when they took the Minari rights over was indeed the Delfino Feroce.

As posted earlier, Adrenaline decided to go for a complete re-design rather than put this into production, so safe to say that the Delfino Feroce is now officially dead.

Probably for the best. Why hamper your marketing department with trying to sell a car called "the ferocious dolphin"?

Ok, overall I think the styling is fine, though I can't help but feel the back needs something more-ish, such as a wing, and perhaps a spot of underbody aero.

As for a B road challenge vs an Ultima, well, your comparing apples to oranges there, I'd be more interested in a comparison vs the doner, and or an EVO to see how the performance differed.

Might be tempted as a replacement for black beauty when she goes, pity you're down in Cornwall, or I may have considered driving down there to take you up on that B road thing...

I have spoken to Adrenaline about doing a comparison test with a Scooby.

Don't think it will be for a month or so yet though.

Evening all, just popped over from the Elise forum.
Saw this thing today, you followed me and my silver Elise into Newquay.
Your car sounded fantastic but I'm afraid I have to agree with negative comments made about her appearance (Sorry!!).
When I saw it in my rear view mirror I initially thought it was a chavved-up MX5. Eventually dismissed that idea and became confused. When I saw the back end I immediately thought Z4. Sorry, the car does indeed look like a Z4 crossed with an MX5 and then 'improved' by a fan of max power mag.
Apologies for being so negative and it seems a great way of using up scooby drivetrains. Best of Luck thumbup
