How would you suggest a new body shell should be made?

The alternatives seem to be:
Make a buck by hand and take off moulds.
(Lots of time and effort and mess but doable on a diy basis (see LaBala or Meerkat))
Get an aluminium body shell made and take moulds off this.
(body makers will be used to restoring classics so work will be good but you'll pay for it)
Make a 3D computer model and have it mackined from a block of resin coated foam.
(The finished buck appears from the solid block almost ready to take moulds off but you pay for machine time.[see dpcars website])

Did you get your buck machined on a 5 axis machine?

There is no simple answer to this one as it very much depends on your intended use of the moulds.
Are they to go into volume production, low volume production or simply for your own vehicle.
What is the chassis like that the body will be dropped over, is it properly balanced side to side, what funds are available, etc etc etc
All of the variables above and many more need to be considered prior to making these decisions.
Often the biggest is question is one of budget and whether you are doing the work yourself or getting it subcontracted.
I am happy to discuss these issues on the phone if anyone wants some input into a project.
Neil.

Some comment about Raffo Belva's on this forum. I have posted some recent photos of my car. This is the one that was featured in the Kit Car magazine a few years ago. Great to see the pictures of the Yellow one at stoneleigh. There are not many around.

No problem seeing out of the screen.
