I didn't exactly know where to put this video. I knew some of you would be interested in it, but didn't think it was worth a new thread.

Anyway- a Lomax build from start to finish.

note- it looks brake connections at the master cylinder are the wrong way round.
The link doesn't work for me...

Even though I no longer have any 2CVs, I still have (somewhere) a pair of Dell'Orto carbs if I ever do get round to that Mehari project....

Just seen this on Autoblog

I were right about that saddle feet are little far forward for my taste, though there does seem to be substantial front overhang beyond that

Hey guys, awesome topic! thumbup

I love a trike but it's gotta be real compact and modern looking. Although, saying that, i'm sure it's the release of the Morgan that's got me thinking three wheelers again.

Not sure if anyone can help me find some information on a recent trike...

I remember seeing a video, a few months back, about an electric trike, much more modern and compact than the Morgan style ones, I think it was made by one of the better known kit car companys but can't be sure. I don't even know if it was put into production.
I seem to remember the promotion video was of the trike zipping around some mountain roads, really compact, think it was white. Looked like a whole lot of fun!

Thanks in advance thumbup

there are tonnes of small one off builds that are electric, but the only one that immediately springs to mind from one of the larger manufacturers is the little MEV batmobile.

Most global manufacturers are playing around with them too now like Peugeot, Mercedes, VW, Nissan etc etc. In fact VW are putting a limited run of thier XL1 on sale at some point in the next few years. Would love to see one, I think they look amazing.

My first thought was the VW GX3, from LA show few years back; but it's not electric, and despite more pr**kteasing than normal, hasn't gone into production (AFAIK).

If this isn't it, suggest you dig up Italo's legendary trike thread: though primarily concerned with commuter trikes, just about every trike known to man was featured at some point...

I rooted this out only yesterday and sifted through the first 20 pages or so. Highly interesting stuff with loads of info and technology ideas too. Need to get through a few more pages today for my latest design brief. (2016 version of an invacar)

The Batmobile is the one I was looking for!!! Thankyou. thumbup 600mpg sounds awesome but the main draw for me is that it just looks like brilliant fun! Dont suppose you could get much of a bike engine in a Batmobile, wouldn't need anything big though. Hmmm...

Never thought the big guys would be up for some 3 wheel action, fair play to them.

Mike- I have said it before and i will say it again. I want your car.

Also, i haven't had a proper close up look at a Malone yet. I presume they are front engined? there doesnt look enough room in the back, thats all. If so, is it shaft and final drive as per a BMW/guzzi set up?
Sorry Niall, not for sale! And you are at the wrong end of the country for me to offer you a joyride!

The Skunk is front engined, It's prop drive until just behind the drivers posterior, then a rear crown and pinion drive from a BMW K100 (prop drive bike) turns the drive 90 degrees. The crown and pinion unit is concentric with the rear swingarm and final drive is via two sprockets and an old fasioned chain. Very similar to the setup Sam_68 posted on Wed 2nd March in this thread.

Is the batmobile based on the e-trike? May I refer you again to R Q Riley : http://www.rqriley.com/3-wheel.htm
I have never driven one, but looking at the pictures there appears to be too much weight high up and close to the single wheel. The drivers seat is even raised up to accomodate the batteries! This doesn't appear to be counter balanced by any weight over the two wheel axle.

It's a bit of a worry to see that the tyres are on back to front on this photo in the Press Release page eek

I can't see fully because I'm only on my iPod at the moment. But surely if they are rear motorcycle tyres they would be put on backwards for the front wheels anyway as they need breaking/steering grip and not put the power down grip? I know this is what you do on bicycles of the pedal powered variety...

uni project. Due to the nature of the vehicle I'm having to design it inside out starting with a package.

Interestingly though the original invacar wasn't as small as you might expect. If we compare it to the 1998 smart fortwo the invacar was about 40cm longer but only 13cm narrower. Very interesting little cars are the invacar....

I shall try to keep you updated, but nothing too detailed in case someone wants to steal my ideas (not that any of you would, but it is an open forum afterall). thumbup

It's nothing to do with grip - it's all to do with clearing water. They ARE on backwards, as the "V" should be the other way up on the front of the tyre. The point of each V hits the road first, then the rest of the groove shifts the water to each side, and out from under the tyre. At the moment they would pump water UNDER the tyre!

hi to slomax,i know the wheels are bugging you but they weigh nearly nothing as they are magnisium and the three spokes kind of tie in to the concept of a three wheeler in a way.the major diferance with our humble ofering is the fact that we do not offer a set product.our customers can have ANY wheels they like, spokes with disc or drum, cast wheels, billet wheels,i make all the suspension componants myself including the uprights.I will also hand make any stainless exaust pipes you could think of,i would bring the two pipes together in a candy twist and then sweep down the side finnishing of in your initials if you like.
We are planning diferant body styles later, your choice of instrements, steering wheel, trim, ect, basicly a bespoke handmade NEW vehicle completely to customer specs. Also the ONLY one to use the brand new JAP engine at present as we have colaberated with the Card brothers who own the rights and they offer the engine in diferant styles as well from fully enclosed heads, see race retro,to exposed dog eared heads, twin amals, single SU even feul injection soon.Ive even got an Opcon Auto Rotot supercharger on the shelf for the very brave. So my ambition is to give people lots of choice and freedom of there own interpretation in a new vehicle.will be at the prescot show on 10th april and very happy to chat to anybody who comes along.

On another thread re bike engines:

There is a 2cv floating around somewhere with a BMW GS1200 engine and it goes like stink.

Dave de Roxby said:
Hi Slomax, In connection with our deliberations on trike designs, do you know what gearbox this 2CV uses? Is it the original Citroen or something more special. I've been having thoughts about using a BMW flat twin in a fwd format but am stuck for a suitable transaxle unless I design something myself. Have considered the old Alfasud/145 but they are not that prolific and Audi seems a tad heavy.

Is there another modern, lightweight transaxle you can think of that could be used with a bike engine, approx 100/120 bhp?
