See your getting the hang of it already!

Apologies, I neglected the language diference (maybe I should have typed louder).

This is just a little joke, not aimed at you, but about the game some of us married men have to play to justify our spending on our cars.

No point consulting Davidy on this one he's rubbish at it, hence no TVR'ssmile

My apologies too. I spent yesterday lying under the 3000M trying to adjust the handbrake so maybe my English sense of humour is more warped than normal!

It's only resting Dave, and you know it deserves it.

Anyway back on topic, exhaust, Tony Law, or some one who can make a good copy.
Obligatory picture attached.

No it's not, when you get to about 180bhp it is the limiting factor. The one GAjon has posted (mine was the same) has much bigger o/d pipes, all are equal length to the collector, and on the offside some of the pipes go outside the chassis rails to keep everything equal.

TVR_owner has an even more extreme exhaust on his 3000M race car.

But if 175-180 bhp is your target you will get there with the TVR style exhaust.

Given the spec of the engine that you are now targeting, the exhaust will make the difference between 200bhp and 180bhp. (and it sounds much better!)

It will also give you back some of the low down and mid range responsiveness you loose when you fit bigger valves and higher lift cams.

really ? I thaught it was the opposite... big bore for big upgrade with a lot of power and small bore for a standard engine or little tuned.

Its more the length of the primary pipes that make the difference, and you will feel the difference even on a mildly tuned Essex.

Hi,

some news, my engine is at home (thank you Mike), and ready to replace the standard engine.

engine reconditionned with:
- K/N filter
- fast road cam from SE
- cranckshaft/pistons/flywheel balanced and lightened
- cylinder head stage 1
- steel timing gear

just 2 questions, what is the difference between standard cylinder head and Stage 1 ?
and what do you think on wrapping the manifolds to reduce heat in the engine compartment ?

Simon.

Quick question about the exhaust manifolds. What is the OD of the primaries on the 'uprated' one (equal length primaries one that John posted)?
