Classic Vixen Door Seals

Hey everyone,

I'm having a difficult time finding (if they exist) the original style door seals for a 1971 2500.

I have already contacted Woolies about this product: http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/p-1285-door-seal.asp...

which is the exact product i need aside from one little detail. The portion that clamps to the body is just rubber where the ones on the TVR's were wire mesh covered in woven cloth material.

I need enough to do my 2500 and a Griffith 200 so any help would be appreciated!

How can you tell? I've spoken with the original owner and nothing has been changed on this car.

So even though my car came from Europe in 74 with these they aren't OE? I guess i'm still confused as how these aren't OE unless the original owner does not remember changing them out.

Either way I just want to get the correct Door Seals.

New Seals fitted David Gerald although I am sure Adrian will have them as well will save you wondering if what your ordering elsewhere is correct

Sorry for going off topic but I don't think the 2500 had twin tail pipes as standard. I could be wrong though.

Well From my research and with my long long conversations with the original owner. My car is 100% original directly from the factory. The only thing he ever did to it, was routine maintenance. It was finished March 18, 1971, and he received it March 19, 1971 which he drove back from the factory... He drove it around in the UK and Germany until 1974 then down to Holland. Shipped it from Holland to the USA in 1974. It sat in a garage until 1975 then moved and sat until 1977, and then moved again in 1980, then moved again in 1984, and sat until 2005 in a barn, then moved to a garage until i just purchased it last month. All in all 28,000 original miles are on the car, with the tires on it from 1971 that still hold air... The exhaust from what I can tell has never been off the car. But as i've stated, the original owner said he never changed anything...

I'm just showing that what I have is original and trying to find the same parts, these may not be original for other cars, but they were for mine... However, there are VERY VERY knowledgeable people with these TVR's so i'm just looking for answers or to help solve some questions with my car. Most of us never worked for TVR or built these back int he 70's so we are at the mercy of seeing what others are posting etc.

What i'm wanting to do is take pictures (very detailed) of the disassembly of my car while i restore and make it all available to everyone. All in all I just want to be helpful and get some information in return so I hope I'm doing just that.

Back to my original question...does anyone know if/where I can even find the door seals like I have? I can find the rubber ones all over the place...but not the ones i'm looking for.

I also need the Rear Window Seal with the chrome/plastic insert.

Rear Window seal Adrian at Exactly TVR can sort for you and the chrome locking strip get the front while you at it if your in the USA though make yourself a big shopping list as you strip the car and send the list to Grantura MK1 here on the forum and if he has not got the items I am sure he will direct you to the right place.

but for me, Steve Ferron at Specialty Fabrication, supplied parts that were absolutely amazing for my Griffith. Same goes for Bill at Dominion Spares LLC at the US.
The parts delivered by Steve were the best of quality, not sure if he has what you´re looking for
but out of the pile I´ve received for the past year, weather UK or the rest of the EU, the quality of Speciality Fabrication was excellent and Bills efforts to help one out more than one could ask for.

Great! I know Steve Ferron, and he does absolutely amazing work. I purchased my 1965 Spitfire Race Car from him that he prepared. You should see the roll-cage and structural supports he placed into the car..... In face here are some pictures of the car i got from Steve. http://1drv.ms/1Cu5jKo He definitely knows what he is doing. I believe he offers a whole suspension kit to bring the griffiths up to new-age standards. And is definitely a VERY nice individual.

I really understand your desire to get things original and correct and that's great to see however on this seal it sounds like a blip in the production.

I can nearly hear the conversation in the parts store "have we any door seals left we need to get that car out today sorry it will be next week before we pay that supplier but I have some of this will that do" will have to its going to Europe they wont notice as long as it does the job.

I think I would re fit to what is OE to the Cars rather than what is what you believe to be OE to your car.

If it was a Factory modification such as an experimental bonnet or feature that was unique then thats different as those things are important to keep.

If the photos you have posted are the best representation of what you've got then I think you may struggle. I can't make out too much detail. Do you have any cross sections?. I have seen and in fact used on TVRs in the past a seal which is non standard but they are bespoke cars! I tended to find then and use them on lighter trimmed cars but black is commonly available but from your pics probably can't help. If the seal I have in mind is what you are looking for yours are more than worn out.

Andy has a pile of doorseals.
I have only 1 Vixen and 2 types of door seals.
And I want a good water and wind tight new seal. Or at least as good as possible.
Not a specific "original" model. And with 2 different sections (see pics) I do not know which one is original.

I was going for the Land Rover type with a pre formed 90 degree angle but not sure whether it is good.

So hopefully this thread brings a solution????
