Discussion
Hi Phil,
Sorry I was getting married over the weekend so a little tied up!
I bought GYG 60J from John Chatley circa 2000 while he co-owned David Gerald. It was completely stripped and I had been told it had been stored on the previous owner's driveway a while.
It had been repainted a darker shade of blue than shown in the Brands Hatch photos. The body had been repainted numerous times and owing to the thickness of the paint it had cracks in the paint everywhere. I was led to believe that the car had been repainted after it had been stripped in the early stages of a restoration. Stripping it back to the fibreglass I could see it had been repainted many times! I think I counted 11 coats including primer from memory and it hadn't always been blue. I think it might have been a mid metalic green at some point and possibly yellow too, together with various shades of blue (metalic and solid).
Sadly I didn't keep a copy of the V5 for that car and unfortunately I can't remember any details of the previous owner although I have a funny feeling they may have been somewhere in the midlands but don't take that as gospel.
Hopefully I'll be able to make the next meet and we chat about the car.
All the best
Nick
