Hello
Made a start on the front corner this afternoon. To be honest, it went far easier than expected (maybe too easy). I've seen plenty of you tube vids which outline the necessity for specialist tools but both inner and outer bearings came out with just a tap.
But looking at the hub, someone in the past has not be kind to it and I would appreciate your opinion if it is safe to still use it with the the new bearings or if it needs scrapping. When I was removing the old grease from within, I found what I believe is 3 old needle rollers plus various other bits of shrapnel, none of which look to belong to the existing bearing so may have been left behind from an older failure.

There are various nicks in the hub and also at the base of the stub axle

What do you reckon?

The outer races need tapping out of the hub, the new bearings come with both inner and outer races.

What does the rest of the stub axle look like?
As has been said, you need to remove the bearing outer "sleeves" from the hub so it is probably OK. If the stub axle is grooved, pitted or generally looking second hand it may be due a replacement perhaps.

Cheers Andrew, that's very good of you. I did manage to get the races out this morning but despite my best efforts at being gentle, there are still some battle scars, which may or may not be my doing. Given the overall condition, I'm considering sending it off to Adrian to assess, if he deems it unuseable, I may come back to you. See images below and thanks again.
