Vixen 2500 Rev Counter 7k

Morning all,
My rev counter has always over read since I've owned it (quite handy at track days) but now as soon as I turn the ignition on (even without the engine running) it maxes out. I've checked all the connections but any other thoughts? I'm not sure if it's related to my previous alternator thread but it does seem strangely coincidental.
