TVR badge colour

What is the correct colour of the TVR badge on the bonnet of a 1967 TVR 1800S? And what is supposed to be on the back of the car? Are there supposed to be any markings saying 1800S anywhere?

Mine has a blue dome enamel TVR badge on the bonnet and a green one on the rear left (no dome but not a sticker either). Nothing else.

This is the back end of an 1800S. It only has the TVR1800S badge.

I don't know if this is the original arrangement, but it seems to be in line with other cars

As far as I know

The blue background badges are 'M' series.

Vixens had green background.

Tuscans had green front badge (as Vixen) and brown rear badge.

Not sure of earlier ones, but I think they were green.

My car does have a Vixen S2/S3 style bonnet but even so the blue badge is most likely wrong any way then?! I would like to fit the correct badges to my car. The bonnet will be replaced with a correct one sooner or later too (probably later) but I can start with the badges.
The 18000S one on the rear appears hard to find. Google has not come up with anything to help.


Does anybody know when they stopped using this style badge on the front? Perhaps when Lilley took over? Or when the Turner chassis was introduced?

The winged Enamel badges are available i think on an 1800s its certainly what i would fit.
I may be wrong but i always associate the Green Badge with Martin and his Dad taking over however but may well be incorrect.

I'd say the colour should be green. Blue for M series cars.

I have black ones which will eventually go in mine which were made up by some bloke on ebay. Will look good with the silver/black rest of car.

I think the Green badge came in with the Manx tail MK3 1800 s and the Griffith.

I'll get a green one for the bonnet instead of the blue. If anybody knows how to source the 1800S badge that should be on the back to hestitate to let me know. Until then I guess the green plain TVR badge can remain. Better than not having anything at all....

I believe the TVR (all joined up) logo was designed by Trevor Fiore for the Trident, which appeared in early 1965. So I think that it would have replaced the winged logo in 1965, thus the green badge is correct for an 1800S. Not sure whether the rear badge as shown above is available anywhere, but this looks to be correct for the later Grantura 1800S Mark 4, and I don't think it is a bespoke TVR part.

I believe the rear badge is from the Austin/Morris 1800 of that era.

Yes, it appears to be from Austin 1800 mk1. A car that appears to be even more rare than a TVR 1800 where I live.

The brochure appears to show a rear badge of the same type as on my photo of the blue car, the green TVR1800S badge, so it looks like that is standard. Does anyone know whether the badge on the back of OLO is original or a clever substitute?

The Blue car is a Mk3 1800s and OLO is a later Lilley era 1800s - could this account for the different badges.

As Rob says, the later Lilley cars look to have had the Austin badge as shown on OLO4E above. The July 1968 (a year after the model was replaced by the Vixen!) issue of "Safety Fast" has a road test of a Mark 4 with that badge. In fact, it could be Chris's car, it is apparently bottle green and had been sprinted by Gerry Marshall who was Sales Manager at BarMoCo where Chris originally saw it when it was new. Copy of the article in the red Brroklands book of road tests.
