On my 3000S a previous owner fitted an Oil Cooler. Also there is a Sensor fitted in the front of the Engine next to the Oil pressure connection. There was a wire from this area upto Dashboard but no Oil Temperature Gauge ever fitted.
Do you think it's a good idea to fit an Oil Cooler to a road car and would it make sense to fit an Oil Temp gauge.
Maybe a bit OTT.

If your oil pressure begins to drop during prolonged periods of "spirited" driving then consider a cooler, otherwise, personally, I wouldn't bother.

Does that wire go to an oil pressure warning light?

Three " must haves" for any tuned up car in the seventies, alloy rocker cover, pancake air filter and an oil cooler wink

I don't think there is an Oil pressure warning light in the Dashboard on my 3000S.
There's already an Oil pressure gauge .
I just imagined the sensor in the "T" shared with the Oil pressure Gauge would be to fit an Oil Temp Gauge.
I have only had contact with sadly the Widow of a past owner so impossible to ask questions.
I understand he used to do some track days and have a photo of the 3000S at Goodwood.

I have an oil cooler on my griff 500. It does keep the oil cool as you would expect on a track. For road driving it makes little difference. The biggest issue is that in anything other than warm weather I have to cover it up or the oil never reaches operating temperature....which is a bad thing.

So it makes sense when you fit an Oil Cooler that it has a Thermostat.
Or fit an Oil Temp Gauge so you can take it easy until the Oil warms up.
Next question what is the correct operating temperature for the Oil.
What would be the correct Oil pressure for an Essex Engine.

Mine runs at about 45psi, higher when cold and drops off at idle when warm. But it has done 100,000 miles or so.

So to fit an Oil Temp Gauge where would we fit the Sensor for the Gauge, next to the Oil pressure Sensor.
I see no sense in fitting an Oil pressure warning Light as when it comes on it's too late. Plus an Oil Temp Gauge is another nice Gauge to watch .

You can get higher pressure senders...
Dads has a mechanical gauge and also a 20psi warning light

I have a cooler fit to my Vixen 2500. Just make sure you have a bypass thermostat fitted. If not the oil will run to cold (and that is very bad for a motor).
I am using a Mocal in line thermostat they are quality and easy to fit.
