I have a spare one, does any one want it?
It would need a refurb, although it does move, it should really be sleeved and rebuilt.

Do I remember rightly that someone was doing a refurb service for these? I.e. drilling out seized pins, reaming and pressing in bronze bushes and reassembling with stainless pins. .....or something like that? I have a small collection all needing attention.

That's interesting to know. I plan to refurb mine at some point. Any idea what your exchange unit costs will be?

Haven't a clue yet.
When I have done a couple of sets and I know costs of parts / time taken I will publish costs :-)

As a non-regular contributor to this forum, I'm now pleased to become involved with this Vixen Door Hinges thread. Mind you, as I previously relied on both The Gamekeeper and then next Adrian, by 'phone, for my Vixen S2 technical/mechanical problem-solving, with neither of them still contributing you may wish to think twice before dealing with me! Both my doors' hinges are now in urgent need of replacement/refurbishment as the doors are dropping too much at the rears and badly scoring the shut plates. I notice that one of you is contemplating refurbing/supplying such items and have noticed that Racetech are offering replacements. Being a "little knowledge is a dangerous thing" type of mechanic I am hoping that you, ore experinced guys might be of assistance. Such as; how straight-forward a job should I expect replacing them to be? - should I expect "captives to be in situ when hinges bolts are removed?, etc., etc.,. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, even if its "Leave it to the professionals"!! Thank you

Racetech hinges look like a nice job wink ..... Racetech
300 and a bit quid for a set, wonder how that will compare to refurbished unit costs ?... scratchchin

One or more of the three bolts seized in the alloy arm is the most typical problem. The bolts TVR used are quite long so if/when they snap (common) you are left with a piece of bolt protruding from the back side of the hinge which will then make it very difficult to get the hinge out of the narrow slot in the door without damaging the fibreglass.

Drilled and tapped all mine out to M10. wink

Originally 5/16 unf, fine thread in alluminium is never going to be very clever.

3/8 but yes, you are right, drilling them out and tapping a new thread is about the best option if you snap one off.

I would also recommend supporting the door whilst working on the hinges. I open the window a touch and loop some straps around the window frame and over the garage ceiling joists to take the weight of the door while I’m working on it.

Yes, I was wondering about the replacement v. refurb costings. Perhaps Dollyman850 has got a bit further with his costings - I wonder?

At £300 per set its hardly worth refurbishing the old ones!!
