Hi,it’s me...back again!!! This TVR 3000m running a Ford V6 continues to run uneven and hiccups along at low revs !! Acceleration is great but when driving at a slower speed it’s very hiccupy and uneven... It has new distributor cap/ leads and plugs ! Carburetor is a Weber 38 DGMS and have tried 50/55 and 60 idle jets and extensively adjusted the idle screws I’ve changed the power valve and both the Other diaphragms , checked the float twice !!! Have checked timing and today disconnect the vacuum pipe to the dizzy vacuum (which didn’t have any effect ??!) HELP !! Can anyone shed any light on what can be the problem as I’m truly at a loss .......???????
You may well have found the problem but possibly lost faith in your trouble-shooting
Disconnecting the vacuum advance unit should make a difference but will only make a difference when there is a vacuum at the pipe to it
Check there's definitely suction at the distributor end of the vacuum pipe, you may have to raise the revs a little to gain vacuum
Once vacuum is at the vacuum unit it should make a difference when disconnecting the pipe from it
With the cap off the distributor , applying a vacuum to the vacuum unit should move the base plate inside the distributor and you will see it move
Perhaps there's no problem with the vacuum side, the base plate may be tight and not moving
A vacuum pump is handy for applying a vacuum to the vacuum unit for testing

My buddy took the Carburetor away last evening and after a full strip down and chemical clean, Blow through with an airline and re assembly with lube to all moving parts We bolted it back on fired it up and with small adjustments it’s finally running fabulously well !!!! Thanks to everyone’s contributions but it’s so exciting to have sorted this gremlin out and massive thanks to the man who sorted this out !!!!!... enjoy your driving and tinkering !!!
Hi, the actual tensioner wheel /pulley was attached to the alternator adjuster arm and on the evening this all happened ‘we’ made the bracket and literally repotioned it with what was at hand !!!! I have no part numbers as it was mainly made up there and then and the pulley was there already and repositioned !!!! (Fan belt is a gates 1275)
