Alarm problems
Discussion
Hello
I have reconnected the battery (Cerbera SP6) but the fobs do not have any effect. If I remove the negative lead from the battery then an alarm goes off - this ones not too loud but continues after I have removed the positive lead as well. If I then reconnect the negative lead a louder alarm goes off. I have read that the key fob should be pushed down when connecting the negative cable to re connect with the car but this hasn’t helped!
The indicators also blink twice when connecting the battery.
Battery is 1 year old and fully charged.
Can I check the key fobs function? New batteries probably.
Also the drivers window has now closed after being left open.
Would appreciate any tips on what to do next.
Thank you
Martin

Hi Martin (and Happy 1st Birthday on PH),
I am NOT an expert
BUT
When I restart mine, after disconnecting from the Battery, I go through a specific sequence....
(don't forget mine's an 8)
1) Make sure all doors and boot are closed.
2) Connect Negative (Earth)
My Positive Terminal has 2 cables on it.
I think one is the principal car system (to Starter Motor, Alternator etc)
the other is to the Alarm System (I believe)
Therefore when I connect the positive terminal I ensure the these two cables' terminals are in permanent contact
( I have experienced some strange alarm reactions if they temporarily separate during the connection process)
When the Terminal connection is made, the Alarm engages. If my windows have been down, they will close.
3) Press the Alarm Fob - Indicators blink once (Alarm disengaged)
Then, just for peace of mind, I press the Fob again (2 blinks - re-engaged)
1 press (1 blink - disengaged)
4) Enter the Driver's door and perform the start-up sequence.
I realise this does not answer your question
BUT
After 30-odd months of not doing this, I had forgotten the sequence and had probs restarting her.
Fortunately, asking a question on here brought responses from Joolz and Rog which kick-started (sic ) my memory.

Hello Paul
Thanks for the bday wishes......
And for the process.... I will first change the batteries in the fobs........lockdown has ended today so I can get to an electrical place that has these batteries just in case they are flat.
Will give it another go today, yesterday was not a good day to have alarms constantly going off even if I have good neighbours.
Cheers
Martin.

In Luxembourg you have to get a government certificate signed by 75% of the local Commune's registered Voters before you can own a TVR in the area !Thanks for the bday wishes......

One thing I forgot to mention, which you've probably realised, is that the principal siren of the Horn is driven by the Car's Battery
BUT
In case of a serious theft, the system has a battery of its own which powers the siren to the best of its ability (hence the lesser effect).
ATB
p.s. I bought my batteries from a Supermarket. Don't tell me you've been locked down from using those ??
They are too specialized for our supermarkets....got some from the diy store. Changed them but still no joy unless I put them back in the wrong way!
Seems I need to do a reset to get the fob to work with the alarm...which from what I’ve read means pushing the fob when connecting the battery. I just hate it when the alarm goes off unexpectedly. Yes I have found out about the aux battery, it’s not as loud but I cannot seem to stop it - after two or three goes it stops itself.
Cheers
Martin.

OP, does sound as if the (integral) battery in the siren is on its way out.I assume on the Cerbera the Alarm is a Meta with an M-36T2 immobiliser and M-99 central locking 'box'? See http://www.abacusalarms.co.uk/tvr-alarms.html.
I had some issues with the system on my Tuscan. A 'phone call to Dave at http://www.hf-solutions.co.uk/about/4586165671 helped me out....David is UK based rather than Carl Baker, who lives in France now,
One of the things Dave suggested was to clean/contact spray the multipin plugs on the 2 units and also to trace the flat, ribbon type cables which have a small plug similar to a mobile phone charger plug (often taped over) and separate the male/female and spray them then remake the connection.
Carl does visit the UK, usually twice a year to Kent TVR and TVR 101, to attend to customers repairs.
Couple of choices, then!
Nick
So after getting in touch with Carl Baker we checked the alarm and immobliser wiring via video link which was confirmed as knackered.
Carl made a new loom and sent it with the new immobliser and alarm for me to install.
The installation went through okay - Carl showing great patience through the video link as I learnt a bit about Cerbera electrics, re-wiring and soldering.
The car is now running again and if anything the electrics in general seem to be performing better!
We also identified a problem with the drivers side reed switch which I ordered two off from eBay and have that as a job to do.
Cannot recommend Carl highly enough - a fountain of knowledge and thorough working practices.
Cheers.

Please post pictures of the reed switch replacement, as that would be very useful indeed
