I have an original RHD '64 Grantura Mk III and wish to remove the bonded on body to do a ground up restoration on it in the near future. Does anyone have a any information or perhaps a "step by step" web site they can share with me on the pro's and con's of this endevor?

What are the pro's and con's as well as the procedure for turning it in to a bold on body rather than bonding it back on?

Thanks, Pat

Ian Massey-Crosse did a full rebuild of one of the famous racing Granturas which was well documented in Sprint a few years ago. Might be worth trying to track down a few back issues, or get in touch with him and ask him yourself.

Hi Pat,
I did a MK3 wreck to concour restoration in the late 80's and did remove the body and converted it to a bolt-on.
I will make some drawings for you how to remove the body and I will show you how slightly change the chassis to make a bolt-on version.
E-mail me direct and I will fax or e-mail you some sketches.

Right !! I made a rough scetch, but I think the pricipal is clear.
You need about three man to pull the body from the chassis (it will make a strange noise when the body comes off the chassis).
The vertical bonded pieces on the chassis you have to grind gently away and reinforce later with GRP.
Try to keep the floors to the body ! If you do not succeed in that, just glue them in again. Simple as that.

Chassis looks like an interesting challenge Cantus! But not as bad as some I suppose.

Do you have any more pics, this looks like a long job!

Still curious how to perform the bolt-on. Do you have a sketch of that?

I now this is a very old thread but I'm in the same situation and was wondering if there is any way to bring back the pictures and sketches from this post? Or does anyone have any current pictures or information they can share. Right now I'm currently taking the car apart and documenting the process with pictures and notes.

In cut away drawings I see two vertical panels that look like they are welded to the frame at the door jamb, and the bulkhead. Are these welded to the frame and how do I work around them if they are? Where the bulkhead and the front inner fenders meet looks to be the hardest area to work with. Were the front inner fenders attached to the bulkhead and front frame member after the body was bonded to the chassis when new?

I want to do restoration right on the car, and not doing the body off would always be bothersome to me after it was completed.

Regards
Keith
