What is a GT Car?
Discussion
I looked at the wiki and it says this:
A grand tourer (Italian: gran turismo) (GT) is a high-performance luxury automobile designed for long-distance driving. The most common format is a two-door coupé with either a two-seat or a 2+2 arrangement.
Grand tourers differ from standard two-seat sports cars in typically being engineered as larger, and heavier, while emphasizing comfort over straight-out performance or spartan accommodations.
I'm not sure I would class a TVR or Lotus as that myself LOL! Is my Renault Clio a GT car? That's a luxury automobile designed for long distance driving.
I am being tongue in cheek but I am interested to know where the line is drawn.

So starts a debate...... Someone more authoritative than me will answer, but to start things off:
Lotus Elise = Sportscar
TVR Tamora = Sportscar
TVR T350 = Sports coupe
TVR Cerbera = GT
Clio = Hatchback
To me a GT car is a luxurious fast 2 door, saloon car. i.e coupe.
If it's fast but not heavy and luxurious it's a Sportscar.
If it's got 4 doors it's a saloon, 3 or 5 doors it's a hatch. God only knows why i'm typing this.

Shopping trolley is unkind, while one should not, try to analyse to closely, shirley the Clio is a tin top, and as such is a Touring Car. Admittedly a small one.
GT=2 door, 2 seat coupe, I.e with a fixed roof, or at a stretch 2+2 seating, or with no roof. I would have said large capacity more than 4 cyclinderd, but really I think large power output, would be more appropriate in these turbo charged, electronic fuel injection days.

In terms of Racing, I think there is a description in either the FIA or ACO.
Otherwise, I've always taken it as a sporty 2+2 with a balance of both dynamic ability and comfort.
If always thought that it should be able to do long distance travel with great comfort and speed. GT cars should be able to do the orignal grand tours of the 19th century, take you from Oxford to Florence for some cultural stimulation, then back home along some swiss mountain pass' for some petrolhead stimulation!
