Doing the full Spa 24 hours week this year after a shortened trip last. Shame they've messed around with the parade and I still don't know why they don't put the GT4s as a support race, but still should be a great week as always

Been to Spa in 2014 and 2016, both Tuesday to Monday for the full week. Its a great event that they put on and it will be interesting to see if Bentley can actually win it this year. Was looking to go to this year but we couldn't find any accommodation within walking distance of the circuit and prices seem to have gone up by 50% for most places too.

What have they changed wrt. the parade day? Have to admit the H&S peeps in England would have a field day letting race cars drive so fast to spectators even on closed public roads. Think we were stood less than a metre from some of them as they gassed it past us outside the airport.

The Parade now is due to start at 18.00...........about 90 minutes later than before, therefore the Autograph Session is due to start at 19.00.........I am sure the teams are thrilled.

By shifting it later, you can now no longer get back to the circuit / Francorchamps after the event by public transport because it's after the last train / bus via Verviers.

This means you can't get back if you don't drive. Furthermore, even those who can drive, but would otherwise use public transport can't. So it will force even more cars into Spa which is just what is needed, more cars into an already crowded town.

It's short sighted, and frankly rather ill thought out and stupid.

I will enquire of SRO why this change was made when I see them in Monza.

This year I will not be staying in Spa town centre so will park on the outskirts and walk in.

I emailed them / the organisers. To be fair they replied pretty quickly. They said it was to allow more people to attend. By which I assume they mean locals after work. It's a logic I understand, but equally it doesn't seem well thought through.

They said they were speaking to the local bus company. I haven't heard any more or seen any announcements. I'll follow up closer to the event if they don't announce anything. If they were to run some bus direct from Spa to Francorchamps afterwards it makes sense all round. More people can attend, and less cars will be in Spa which helps congestion. It needn't cost anything as people would buy a ticket instead of the train / bus via Verviers.

As it's such a key part of the week for many so people will go regardless, I don't think they want to be in a situation where people decide to walk back along the road

That was pretty much what I figured.............to allow more locals to get in on the act. Being Belgium it will be a mad house..............all the better for that.

Heading to my first spa 24 this year, Thursday to Monday and was wondering are there any car shows or events locally to go to? We are staying in malmedy so fairly local to the circuit

Not an event or show, but have a look at the timewarp abandoned Volvo garage, on your right hand side as you drive from Malmedy towards the circuit, you're also ideally placed to drive the roads of the old circuit.

Not that I'm aware of. The big event is the parade to Spa on Wednesday where the cars and drivers parade to the town then park up. The track action starts on Tuesday, so Wednesday is the equivalent of Le Mans Friday (although strictly speaking there is some private track stuff). From Thursday to Sunday it's solid on track action

Another local attraction is the racing museum at Stavelot

http://www.abbayedestavelot.be/en/musees/spa-franc...

One can never be sure what cars will be found on display but there is usually something of interest.
