Not got an response in the Cerbera forum, so was pointed to ask here..

How/where do I measure an AJP head to work out if, or how much it has currently been skimmed? What is the standard thickness?

Good Question, Not some think general racers would know, most of us just thrash them to death and then get someone else to pick up the pieces. you might be lucky with either calling Jason at Straight Six or John Read @ Readman Racing ( Grantura Engineering ) there are a few other engine builders out there but I don't know of anyone who might know outside the two I have suggested. Graham Waldron might have some pointers but he is at Donnington today with a few guys from here racing in Bernies V8's so you might get a better response later in week once they have all got back.

Don't feel bad , if you don't ask you won't get, is my experience in life. Jason used to be head engine builder for the factory in the day I;m led to believe, so he should be able to answer any questions you might have about a AJP V8 or at least know where to point you to look.Just tell him I suggested him to you that you should ask him, he's a good man and will see it as a genuine ask.

I saw Billy's heads when they came off , they couldn't be skimmed any more as there was nothing left to skim , I think they were at least 2-3 mm thinner than my unskimmed road car ones , I also belive new race heads were skimmed to raise the compression ratio .

Cc ing the heads is probably the only way of seeing how much has been taken off.

Valve to piston clearance is the thing obviously. I run rovers so wouldnt know about ajps but a 28cc head skimmed to death will drop the cc'sto maybe 26ccs increasing compression.

Google ccing the heads for vids or go straight to utoob.

You can then ask Dom at power if its ok.
