My cars have all had box section welded in running front to back, spaced apart so that a seat mounted on flat plates at each side will slot between them and bolt through. That way you can get the bottom of the seat right down between the chassis tubes. I’d have a piece of GRP or carbon that I’d attach underneath - or in my Sagaris a honeycomb floor that bolted on the underside.

The box section would be pre drilled to allow some fore and aft adjustment of the seat on the mounts. The factory race department used to sell the seat mounting plates, but simple enough to make out of 5mm Ali.
I had to cut those out on number 6.. couldnt get the seat low enough as the seat wouldnt go between the rails.( could have cut out and moved the one rail over but i had some nice flat plate ;-) )... im only 6 ft but short legs and tall in the body !!!

also iirc it was Hughs car that one of those box sections failed in a shunt as it had too many adjustment holes in it !!!

I suspect the cars had different drivers more often in the old days so some adjustment was good to have - but then over the years people put different seats in them and the holes don't quite line up, so one gets enlarged slightly... and after 20 years of this you end up with something lacking in the strength it had originally.

I remember No 6's bracing was a pain as it was slightly too narrow!

Had my 2 seat car on the ramp today and took these pics in case they may be of interest.
This is as per factory build and unmodified.

Thank you - I think I have the same issue - 6ft tall but most of it’s above the waist!! Going to start mods next week - combination of lowering and seat tilt should do the job. Will post pics once complete

All done - 4.5cm lower. Minor seat tilt and a new outrigger set up, new plate and cross members stitch welded in - drain holes included. Fingers crossed this does the job.
