I like this one!
I've been waiting for the updates! Been too busy his weekend to follow things properly - will be watching the coverage on Motors TV.
I did read that Loeb had asked why the first 2 stages were closed to spectators - apparently the weren't, just no one turned up to watch! Unfortunately that is a good indication of the interest in rally in the UK.

It's just the wrc a lot of people haven't gone due to only 30 cars being entered i beleive national rallying is still going strong. Im only 30 mins from a stage and the last time i went was 2009.I did read that Loeb had asked why the first 2 stages were closed to spectators - apparently the weren't, just no one turned up to watch! The National events get plenty of support - both from entries and speccies. There are some good events in the next few weeks; Trackrod Rally Yorkshire, Colin McRae Stages, Sweetlamb Rally Time Trial, Cambrian Forest Rally, etc

We went last year,it was expensive and miles to walk,I used to like watching national rallying untill they banned the interesting cars like burtons Peugeot cosworth,so I don't bother now.I did read that Loeb had asked why the first 2 stages were closed to spectators - apparently the weren't, just no one turned up to watch! The sad fact is the new rally cars of today are shockingly quick, sound superb and are amazing to watch.
The problem is with the tv rights and pr,it's all to pot.
The FIA want their arses kicking for what's happened to the WRC.
Drove all the way down from Central Scotland to marshal at the event and have just got back. Was fantastic, great to see the top drivers going for it and some interesting cars and great driving in the nationals too.
That's not to say it couldn't be better, there's definitely big improvements to be made to this event and the WRC over all but I had a good time all the same.

Does that mean it is going to be in Wales again?
Yes, for at least one more year, maybe 2. Great news for me coming from the motorsport starved South West, but I really hope this year has given the organisers a proper kick up the arse...3 threads talking about Rally GB, are the mods on holiday?

Only one thread is talking about Rally GB, the other two are about how everything was better twenty years ago.
Yes, but for RallyGB it's actually true. The proof is out there - this weekend merely confirmed it. It's no good for those of us who went - and enjoyed it. Who else saw it? Who else knew about it? Why should Manufacturers come here when they receive virtually no publicity? If the event has trouble attracting the Motorsport fan, what chance Joe Bloggs from Doncaster? The event is now just another identikit WRC event – it’s iconic status has gone – all is left is the history, and you can only trade on that for so long.
The WRC teams and organisers have their heads in the sand.

I've just clocked you on BRF..If the event has trouble attracting the Motorsport fan, what chance Joe Bloggs from Doncaster? The event is now just another identikit WRC event – it’s iconic status has gone – all is left is the history, and you can only trade on that for so long.

I think we have pretty similar views on this, and I am actually positive about the future of the WRC. I don't think rally GB needs a huge amount doing, a bit of innovation on the route and lower the prices and the crowds will return.
I find it alarming that some people actually seem happy that the crowds are non existant and that it should only attract hard core fans (see BRF thread ). I'm with you, the event needs to attract spectators from all walks, generate some Buzz again. So hopefully next year will be a good one, we're starting to plan already....for hopefully November
The future could be good, I agree. Though the WRC finds ways to ‘balls it up’ when it’s looking good. I don’t think there are enough ‘hard-core’ fans to support a World Championship event – and too many have their heads in the sand thinking it will come good, as if by magic.
Why don’t the organisers visit overseas events to see how to put on a show; Finland, Ypres, etc It’s pretty ironic really, we used to put on a huge event that had no problem attracting fans, hard-core & casual. In my opinion the WRC went down the wrong road with the ‘one size fits all’ indentikit event. But none of them will admit it.

I went to Rallye Deutschland a few weeks ago, and it was none of the things mentioned above.
150+ entries, plus a big historic championship attached as well going through the first 3 stages of each day (Mk2 Escorts, Deltas, Stratos', Stig Blomqvist in an Audi Quattro etc).
Huge fan/media attendance.
We had gold passes at €89 which were the top price tickets and got you in every stage, the service park, the qualifying stage and in a grandstand on the live TV (Germany TV at least) circus maximus special stage!
And parking (well organised as you would expect from the Germans) was €1 per car park.
This is where the organisers need to visit....
